If you missed it, an interview with Griffins coach Dan Watson was a lot of fun and brought up some of the excitement the organization is seeing in the pipeline. The future in net looks particularly bright.

Tonight, the Red Wings hope to leave California in the rear view. It’s an odd sentiment waking up to snow falling in Oakland country, but 2 of the three teams saw Detroit matching up well in stats but not performance or results. We saw a look on Coach LaLonde’s face after the OT loss in San Jose the I haven’t seen since report card day 30 years ago (a dark time, curse you chemistry.)

To the Stat-mobile:
Detroit now has the #2 power play in the league. That’s the only single digit stat listed in the pregame for the Winged Wheel:

Power Play: Detroit - 32%. NYI - 12.3%
Penalty Kill: Detroit - 66.7% NYI - 67.5%
Faceoff: Detroit - 51%. NYI - 55.6%
Goals for: Detroit - 2.56. NYI - 2.53
Goals against: Detroit - 3.33. NYI - 2.95

The biggest strength Detroit brings to the table is the man advantage. Detroit is 32nd on the PK, but NYI sits just above them at 31st. Neither team wants to be short handed tonight.

We’re seeing changes hit the league that started out of Boston. Lindholm’s name is being floated as being a bit of a disappointment after the firing of the head coach. This was a player I was interested in, but at the salary and current situation (unless Copp and ?) go the other way it would be a hard sell for what may end up being the 3rd line center as Kasper continues to grow his game.

Let me know your thoughts on what you thing we’ll see tonight. Neither team is satisfied with their standings, and there are some shockingly close (and not good) stats on the board. Can Detroit turn it around? It will likely be on the shoulders of the goalie and the power play.
