Preds make trade, send Johansen to Colorado |

Barry Trotz and the Preds have made a trade to send center Ryan Johansen to the Avs in exchange for the rights to forward Alex Galchenyuk.
Nashville will retain 50 percent of Johansen's salary for the remaining two years of his $8 million average annual value, having him count against the Colorado books at just $4 million per season. Galchenyuk, meanwhile, is a pending UFA come July 1, so the the Preds can speak with him first to potentially sign him to a new deal. But, in other words, this is a cap dump and a Trotz commitment to a full rebuild with Johansen leaving Nashville for free, although cap space is always a hard commodity to come by.
Trotz is committing to a new shift in strategy and I couldn’t be happier. Good or bad, I’m liking the commitment to change. We shall see what further moves are in the pipeline. I have a feeling this will not be the final blockbuster to come out of Nashville’s war room.
On the upcoming 2023 NHL Draft...
I hope we are able to get a top pick and steal Matvei Michkov. Although he will be under contract for SKA until 2026, the fact he will be in Nashville this next week for the draft shows he’s committed to playing in NA. His contract will expire close to when the Trotz rebuild will be gaining serious momentum if all goes accordingly to plan. Michkov is only 18, so I don’t mind waiting until he’s 22 to see him here. It will be well worth the wait. Big swings are needed! No more playing it safe.
