Rutger McGroarty is off the market. After informing the Jets he would not be joining the team post college, his talents are off to Pittsburgh with a potentially very big opportunity. PTOs are being handed out, and in all honesty it would be nice to see some moves made. Most of these may not sit well with much of the fan base but there are a couple of players that may be worth taking a look at.
Victor Soderstrom is a name that continues to intrigue me. He and Utah seem headed for separation. Of course, it comes with a cost. Is this the Berggren deal and see if they’ll take Holl? Probably doubtful, but a player that may benefit from a change of scenery and at a good age for the core being built.
Nicholas Robertson is another player not overwhelmed by the current scenario. While we’re really only privy to third party information, the forward believes a better opportunity lies elsewhere. Is this a player Detroit could make a play for and what would it cost?
This final entry is a “wait and see” in
Marcus Pettersson. His name was bandied about a little throughout the offseason. Pittsburgh wants to know as soon as possible what their team is going to be. Pettersson feels like a “stabilizing” defenseman. The young players are being challenged to balance defense and offense and it’s nice to have someone who is ready to help cover a steep learning curve.
Again, many or most of you might not like these players, or see what they could bring to the table. A Shane Pinto would be welcome, but the cost of acquisition could be brutal. There are some concerning gaps along with aging veterans. This is fantasy hockey stuff. Just meant for a fun kick at the can. Please share your hopefuls and who you’d be willing to make moves to get. Very soon we’ll be discussing Detroit vs. Dallas in pre camp prospect scrimmages. That is exciting and a welcome change!
