Mlive did a write up on a Pavel Datsyuk night and the other promotional nights for the season. Seeing Pav highlights and remembering the insane circumstances that saw Detroit as the only team that scouted him falls into some of the mystique of the bygone era. The rumored events state that Detroit had seen Pav play once in Russia, and were going to go for another look. There was a scout from another team on that plane, and the flight was cancelled.
Regardless of how #13 came to the Motor City, he provided an era of insane highlights. I wouldn’t mind the number being retired, but there’s another Russian player that is long overdue for that honor. I know it’s a point of contention with some, but Fedorov’s number belongs in the rafters.
Pav’s upcoming induction into the hall of fame and the promotional calendar is a nice diversion from a bit of an uncomfortable summer. It seems like nothing is happening. Of course, that’s not true. Conversations with agents will continue until contracts are inked. Still, just two weeks from Friday will see the Detroit and Dallas prospects play a back to back series just before camp.
We know that Trouba was a swing and a miss. We don’t know what (if any) other deals may be on the table and unless you’re on staff for a player agency we don’t know the holdup on Seider and Raymond. Berggren still feels like a potential trade piece but we’ll see how that all pans out.
At this point, not much has happened in the past 2 months. The pickup of steam is inevitable and soon enough it will be the crazy train of information. Here’s to hoping that it hits sooner rather than later.
