Something happened for Detroit fans to read about.. No, it’s not an RFA signing, it’s a PTO.
Michigan native Austin Watson will be on a PTO at training camp. The 34 year old adds to what seems to be a glut of bottom 6 veterans. This doesn’t seem to be anything exciting and exacerbates the logjam. Unless Detroit has an unseen path of parting ways with other “checking forwards” this may come and go with a potential stint in Grand Rapids.
If the overall tone of the writeup seems to border on the blasé, that read would be correct. Roughly 16 days until the prospect back to back game against Dallas and this doesn’t feel like an uptick for enthusiasm. The team is simply stalled out in terms of press releases while the business at hand is attended to. In fairness, I still want to see the team hit the ice and see how the pieces work together. The Sprong departure is more irksome in seeing the pay cut he ended up taking after allegedly seeking a 3 x 3 deal on the open market. Perron out, Tarasenko in. Ghost out, well that’s one that has many of you concerned. It’s up to the team to take a step forward or a step back. We’ll continue to wait and see what the lineup looks on day one of training camp.
