Quick Hits: August 29, 2024

1) Yesterday was a travel day for me back from Philly to Texas. I'll be here over Labor Day weekend and the first couple weeks of September. When I return to Philly, it will finally be time for the Flyers' training camp and preseason. I am back on a normal writing schedule today.

2) Some exciting personal news: I am working with Dave "the Hammer" Schultz and hockey writer Dan Robson on sections (primarily the Flyers-related sections) of Dave's autobiography. That's what I was working on during my plane ride yesterday.

3) My "Offseason Spotlight" article series on PhiladelphiaFlyers.com concludes over the next week with the final three profiles planned for this year's series. Earlier this week, I took an in-depth look at Morgan Frost's 2023-24 season and opportunities for this coming season. Up next in the series, in order, are Travis Sanheim, Scott Laughton, and Egor Zamula.

4) For a look at the upcoming 2024 NHLPA Rookie Showcase, featuring Matvei Michkov and Ivan Fedotov among 33 participants, click here.

5) The pre-training camp edition of the Flyers Broadcasters Roundtable with Tim Saunders, Jim Jackson, Brian Boucher and Todd Fedoruk has gone live on the Flyers YouTube channel. Among other topics, the Flyers' radio and TV broadcast teams talk about the arrival of Matvei Michkov and the growth of Tyson Foerster in much more than just a young winger with a heavy shot. Check it out below:

6) August 29 Flyers Alumni Birthdays: Mike Murray (1966), Doug Sulliman (1959), Tim Tookey (1960).

7) Today in Flyers History: August 29, 1983. The Flyers sign free agent tough guy defenseman Randy Holt to a one-year contract. Holt had some wars with the Flyers as a member of the LA Kings. As a Flyer, Holt compiles 74 penalty minutes in 26 games. He does not record a point.
