Jarvis Gets Big Extension in CAR, Cousins Accepts Discount Deal in OTT |

Frank Seravalli and Chris Johnston broke this first: The Carolina Hurricanes have signed restricted free agent Seth Jarvis to an eight-year contract. Worth $63.2 million overall, there's a portion of the $30 million signing bonus installments that will be deferred to a ninth year (allowed under the CBA). This will lower the yearly cap hit a bit from the $7.9 million it would carry under the eight-year term but carry a cap implication a year beyond the new deal's expiration.
While Jarvis just cashed in big with the Canes, unrestricted free agent Nick Cousins opted to accept a modest one-year deal for $800,000 with the Ottawa Senators. Cousins had multiple PTO offers but opted to take the sure thing with the guaranteed one-year deal with the Sens. It's a one-way deal that will pay the same whether he's in the NHL or waived and sent to the AHL. He made $1.1 million under his expired deal with the Florida Panthers.
