Mlive’s Ansar Khan noted that two first round picks from the past two drafts will play for Detroit as they face Dallas in back to back games that have replaced this year’s prospect’s tournament. Per Khan:

Michael Brandsegg-Nygard, the team’s 15th overall pick earlier this year, and Nate Danielson, the ninth overall pick in 2023, will both be in action Sept. 14-15 for two games against Dallas Stars prospects at Centre I.C.E. Arena.

They will be joined by 22 other players, including five other recent draft picks and other free agent signees and free agent tryouts, according to a roster released by the team on Tuesday

There has been mixed fan reaction in the comments on MBN’s selection this year. There have been recent comments that some of you feel like there’s more to the prospect than originally thought. Others have placed the “High floor, low ceiling safe pick” label on the first round Norwegian pick. As for Danielson, he started writing his own headlines after a trade to Portland saw a bevy of highlight reels and ended with a few games against Milwaukee in post season AHL play. Both players are going to be on the radar for many of you.

The “year off” of the traditional tournament is a bit disappointing but understandable. If you’ve been to Centre Ice in Traverse city at or just after the tournament it is a yeoman’s task of volunteers and club participation. Flights from all over, hotels, games played simultaneously on the two separate sheets and the added task of keeping the ice surface strong that led to some major renovations. By the time the Wings arrived, the ice had in the past still held the scars of the tournament. Still, it is with cautious optimism that hope extends to see some form of return in the next year.

The main team will hit the ice soon after and we are all waiting on some RFA information to come in. Max Bultman has started to warn of potential issues with players and fans on the holdup. For those who remember Athanasiou when he held out, the player has to be careful not to get injured before the ink is dry (and registered). No one wants to see a camp holdout.

Raymond and Seider are regarded by many as cornerstone type pieces for the franchise. I think most are well past ready to see these deals done.
