The Columbus Blue Jackets have signed winger James van Riemsdyk to a one year contract worth $900K. The former second overall draft from the 2007 NHL Entry Draft has been a part of some strong playoff teams, including the 2010 runner up Flyers and the first round exits of Toronto and Boston.

JvR is coming in on a low risk deal on a team needing offense after dealing Laine and tragically losing Gaudreau. The Jackets announced Justin Danforth may miss the start of camp after offseason surgery has yet to bring him back to full health. Waddell is hoping for one or two more buys in the open market, not tryouts.

Final rookie game is against Ottawa at 1:30 from Buffalo.
