Lehner Situation Settled... Johansen Next? |

Elliotte Friedman reported today that the dispute between the NHL/Vegas Golden Knights and NHLPA (on behalf of Robin Lehner) has reached a settlement. Lehner will be paid in full but his contract will NOT count against the salary cap. It was noted that this rare exception to the cap rules was applied only for this situation.
However, I can't help but wonder if the NHL/Philadelphia Flyers dispute with the NHLPA/Ryan Johansen over the player's level of injury and resulting contract termination will end up having a similar outcome to the Lehner dispute. It's not the identical situation and also has the complication of how Johansen's cap hit does not only apply to the Flyers. It also involves the portion of Johansen's cap that Nashville absorbed previously. Even so, this situation otherwise figures to turn into a very complicated dispute to sort out.
A Lehner-like solution would probably take care of this situation, too. But how much of a slippery slope does it create if it's used again?
