Edvinsson and Gustafsson both talked about trying to get a fast start to the season, and Gustafsson talked specifically about the power play units. The preseason didn’t do a lot to reassure some of the frequent commenters on this board in terms of the blue line and the starting lineup. We’ll see if opening night shows a more concerted effort across the board.
Detroit is going to need support in net, and last year it was Lyon who stabilized the group after Husso went down with injury. However Ville Husso regained the confidence of the coaching staff and will be in net for the Red Wings season opener.

“I think he was very sharp his last two performances, his win in Pittsburgh and his performance in Toronto,” Lalonde said. “Those were both very hard tests. There’s a lot of volume. We played both opponents with their full rosters and we did not (have a full roster). We believe in him a lot. He did very well.”
