Update - LaLonde confirms Gustafsson out and Johansson in:

Tonight’s roster has a couple of potential shifts, though not necessarily the one many had hoped for (more on that in a minute). After Detroit’s 6-3 loss to Pittsburgh on opening night, there was plenty of criticism going go around. If you look at the last defensive pairing, you see Gustafsson and Petry. Mlive’s Ansar Khan also tweeted:

While the Wings using Compher at net front is still a bit of a head scratcher Khan states that Gustafsson may have the night off altogether. He clarifies that this hasn’t been confirmed yet, but the defensive play of the newly acquired blue liner was not good in the home opener. Johansson looks like he’ll get a shot on the 3rd pairing with Holl sharing a line with Edvinsson as Petry is still considered day to day.

Meanwhile, Grand Rapids had almost the polar opposite in terms of season openers. Cossa posted 35 saves in a shutout with Kasper grabbing a goal and an assist, Carter Mazur with a goal and an empty net tally by Shine to close out the game. The fan appetite to see Kasper called up was only enhanced.

Today sees Detroit starting Talbot with Lyon on the bench. For the first time Red Wings fans and players will see Stamkos on a new roster and unless the goaltending for Detroit is borderline larceny, it could be a long night. We’ll see how the crew reacts on game 2.
