In a rematch of last season's Western Conference Final matchup, the Dallas Stars downed the Edmonton Oilers, 4-1, at American Airlines Center on Saturday evening. A 30-save performance by Jake Oettinger and two goals from Matt Duchene paced the Stars.
Additionally, first-line center Roope Hintz notched had a goal and two assists, while linemate Jason Robertson posted a goal and an assist. Leon Draisaitl notched the lone Edmonton tally. Stuart Skinner made 20 saves for the Oilers in a losing cause.
The game was scoreless until the final half-minute of the second period. Off to a rough start this season, the Stars' power play provided a timely lift. Hintz won a face-off and passed the puck back to the point. From the high slot, Duchene shot snapped off a shot that beat Skinner to the glove side for a 1-0 lead.
The one-goal score held until 12:06 of the third period as Duchene struck again. Driving the net, Duchene took a feed from Mason Marchment and directed it home for a 2-0 edge. Hintz built a three-goal edge at 13:16 as he beat Skinner from the right circle.
Draisaitl broke up the shutout bid with 2:22 left in regulation. However, Robertson tacked on an empty netter for the final 4-1 margin at 18:01.
After an off-day on Sunday, the Stars will practice on Monday. The next night, they'll visit the Buffalo Sabres (2-4-1).
