at what age did you start being goalie full time? Jr wants to switch to goalie but I think he should at least play one or two novice seasons as a skater.

I would let him play as nongoalie til past atom. Gotta get some idea of where everyone is going to be etc. Hockey iq doesnt exactly grow in the crease.

Also, he won't learn to skate in net. Most low level teams coaches are retarded and exclude goalies from skating drills so the kids just sit in the crease and pick their noses.

Unless you want to enroll him into a goalie school too so he can actually get teaching then wait a few years.

I DID NOT SEE THIS QUESTION until chief bumped it

i only did the mahg poop. never played forward in novice ever.

i went to a goalie camp in the summer with borrowed equipment and player skates when i was 5 or 6 to see if thats what i wanted to do my first year novice and i just went from there. never skated out after that, played goalie my first year novice.

if hes not absolutely sure he wants to be goalie, let him skate around for a year. maybe he'll like scoring goals more by then and that'll save you some money down the road.
