Good coaching should adjust the scheme for the personnel that they do have. It's obvious that they miss a a true QB and net presence, but that doesn't get the coaches off the hook for rolling out the same crap every night without ever even trying something new. I can see personnel as an excuse for them not having an elite PP, the fact that it's not even average is on the coaches as much as anyone else. - Ogilthorpe2
Good point but coaches run their scheme and try to find parts or pieces to fill those roles. Bill Walsh didn't scrap the west coast offense when he didn't have the type of players to make it work. He would run it regardless. Coaches have their philosophy, Detroit didn't change their defensive scheme because of personnel changes this year........ |

You know, I can see a team or even two focusing their efforts on Toews and keeping him off the scoreboard, but it gets pretty hard to fathom that Minnesota, then Detroit, then LA and now Boston have shut him down. This was playoff game number 20 and he has one goal and that came on a PP that bounced in off Jimmy Howard's head. It would be one thing if he was getting a ton of chances, but how many games has he had only 1 or 2 shots on net, and some games none.
Hawks with 1 goal in their last two games. Take out the first period from Saturday night and in the last six periods (including the overtime from Saturday) the Hawks have generated very little offense. If they're not going to go to the net and do it consistently, then this series is a foregone conclusion. - RetiredGoalie
Add the Phoenix series last year to the Toews non-productive act.
He must be injured pretty badly: no jump, no pop, no aggressiveness. |

The problem is a lot of people thought we'd see a different Hawks team tonight . . . we didn't. As for the Bruins not scoring much . . . well, the Hawks are scoring even less, so they don't need to score a ton. On Saturday, they scored 2 goals, but it was enough fro the win. Tonight, they scored 2 goals (could have scored 1) and it was enough for the win. These games are going to be 1-0, 2-1 type games. Unless Crawford can pitch a shoutout on Wednesday, I don't like the Hawks chances. Seriously, that PP is an embarrassment, they are getting killed at the face off dot, and all there offense is on the perimeter with nothing or no one willing to go to the net. They take the puck down below the goal line and center it out front to . . . . nobody, because nobody goes there. Furthermore, another game where are big players, Towes, Kane, Sharp, Bickell did nothing. If the Hawks go down 3-1, they aren't beating Boston three straight. Boston is not Detroit, not even close. - RetiredGoalie
Boston's got a wall of humanity i.e. Chara, McQuaid, Seidenberg and Boychuk...around Rask....
UNLESS we storm that wall and stop being perimeter ballerinas....we are GOING TO LOSE.
The bayonets need to to FIXED ASAP. |

Is this sarcasm? If not, it sure didn't take long.
Hawks lose 2-0, do little offensively, suck on the PP...
...and someone takes a shot at Crawford.

I thought Sharp played great...but he's about the only forward I can say that about.
The Bruins are just a more complete team and are showing it...the Hawks have been totally outclassed in this series and if not for a couple strange goals in Game 1 this thing would be a sweep right now.

Then said coaches job should be in jeopardy for being too stubborn to do what's best for the team. |

What is the short bus, exactly? Don't think I ever saw a good definition. - StLBravesFan
Well, you should ask Unnamed since he came up with this. But AFAIK, it is the "special" bus in many Chicago suburbs that picks up ONLY the kids with disabilities -- many of them have some sort of mental disability. So I think Unnamed is saying those of us that don't agree with him are short a few cards in the mental deck.
As I said, it's pretty demeaning -- have a friend whose sister is mentally disabled and she gets very upset when someone uses the term "retarded." Again, knowing her and hearing her explanation, I completely understand. The name calling or slights in this regard about someone's physical or mental disability have no place on this board. In some cases, probably most of us never stop to think about it -- but to anyone that has a family member with said disability, it is extremely upsetting. |

I didn't see a slew foot either. It looked more like Bolland was grabbing the guy around the shoulder as they both were starting to fall. Maybe Bolland did just yank the guy to the ground, and that is a penalty, but we've seen so many worse things not called. Whatever, it's still an idiotic move by Bolland whether he's called for it or not. - Hemingways
If Bolland plays the next game ??????????? Shame on Quenneville. I wonder what he would do if Stalberg got 3 stupid penalties in the CUP FINALS series.
Way too many glaring red flags beginning to surface with this team.......starting with Q . |
|
|
|
Two observations among many:
1. We're down 2-1. Needed to get one in Boston. No need for the obituaries until we see what happens Wednesday.
2. I can NOT get over the childish stupidity of Bolland. This is the Stanley Freakin Cup! The breakaway cross-check was a bad penalty, but borderline bad. The other two? Unconscionable! Undisciplined! Selfish! Arghhh! |

It is because we are so passionate about our beloved Hawks. If we didn't care we wouldn't even bother to come on here. Ever check out the Canuck or Oiler thread? We are all die hard in regards to our team - HawkfaninBC
I definitely can understand, and respect that. I am too, but to rip the team to pieces after every lose is sad. |

Umm, yes. Campbell was on the 2nd pp unit...that's not where you put your pp qb - dpard
He did play on the 1st unit and if he didn't he was the pp qb on the 2nd unit.....go back and watch the games in 2009/2010. Most of the time he was in the first unit.
Is the 2nd unit of a pp not allowed to have pp qb? |

Third Period,
Kane, Seabrook, Keith, grade A shots between circles...missed net. Bickel post.
That's hockey. 1 loss. For those of you who can't fight the urge to start the post season moves mid game in 2nd game loss...I just nod my head.
I am obviously not the fan many of you are. My goodness.
The irony, the only place Q won't make an adjustment, is on the PP. Hilarious. I give him slack with Hossa late scratch, but they look like a chinese fire drill out there. Boston is not as good as all the Bruin blowers want to assert.
Anze Toews either needs to move down in line up or sit. Put your able body guys out there and give it a whirl. Tell you one thing, if he is not really hurt, we have bigger problems. |
