If we can get that upgrade (but who?). I think MM would be a fantastic second line winger.
I think the isles are taking a wait and see approach with him. See how this year goes. So far Garth has been able to resign all of his core players at bargain contracts. - special_k1074
Well, obviously a majority of these guys may resign prior to hitting the market, but here are your 2014 free agent left wingers:
Player Pos Team Age Cap Hit Expiry
Heatley, Dany » L MIN 32 $7,500,000 2014 (UFA)
Vanek, Thomas » L BUF 29 $7,142,857 2014 (UFA)
Marleau, Patrick » L SJS 33 $6,900,000 2014 (UFA)
Sedin, Daniel » L VAN 32 $6,100,000 2014 (UFA)
Cammalleri, Mike » L CGY 31 $6,000,000 2014 (UFA)
Whitney, Ray » L DAL 41 $4,500,000 2014 (UFA)
Michalek, Milan » L OTT 28 $4,333,333 2014 (UFA)
Steen, Alexander » L STL 29 $3,362,500 2014 (UFA)
Moulson, Matt » L NYI 29 $3,133,333 2014 (UFA)
Jokinen, Jussi » L PIT 30 $3,000,000 2014 (UFA)
Smyth, Ryan » L EDM 37 $2,250,000 2014 (UFA)
Penner, Dustin » L ANA 30 $2,000,000 2014 (UFA)
Winnik, Daniel » L ANA 28 $1,800,000 2014 (UFA)
Chimera, Jason » WASH
I'd love to make a run at Vanek or even Marleau.
Personally I do think we'll extend MM, but time is ticking

Does this mean he does not play this year? They did that with JEsse Jonesuu - kasperrko
Moulson's signed for this year...there's no issue with showing up for camp or being signed by camp. It's whether they'll extend him further, and they've never really had any deadline with that for UFAs. You'd think they would want to get it done by the trade deadline, but just in the past two seasons they've negotiated with PA, Nabokov and Streit past then, so even that isn't a hard deadline for re-signing him. Chances are high he won't be coming back if they don't lock him up by the deadline though, obviously. |

And our track record of signing top notch FA's compares to that of the Jamaican bobsled team. Just always seem to be not taken seriously as a team to play for.
Vanek and JT would be one of the best 1-2 in the league. I would keep an eye on how Penner does this year with the Ducks. |

Warning to Isles fans do not go to any other blogs that mention the Rangers. If you say any remote criticism (Or do not praise their team to the fullest extent) You get a tribe of Ranger fans crying and talking about it for the next month. Apparently CPT is the latest victim... - mighty13duck

Everything dee writes is gold guys. No criticism allowed! How can this site expect us to take it seriously? All we want as Islanders fans is a writer who talks about whats going on on the ice rather then the next event the booster club has set up. And maybe one who knows what position Kyle Wellwood plays. - Dgmilazz

The Islander blog is locked again? What's the point of having a blogger if you can't have comments on their thread? At this point what does she provide for this site? Not even what does she provide for Islander fans, what does she do for hockeybuzz? She serves no purpose whatsoever. |

Who would take his spot? Unless the Islanders get a LW that can step in this season I'm opposed. They could even get a right wing and move PMB to the LW since he is a lefty anyway. We could probably get a haul for this guy. - Dgmilazz
He may not even have a spot on the first line anymore. He got demoted in the playoffs for Bailey. I could see it being that way to start the season as well. If both Nelson and Strome are ready then I don't see him having a spot on the team anymore after this season....maybe sooner
I also don't think they'd get much for him in a trade. Sure he's a 30 goal scorer who's great from the hash marks in but he is probably the worst 30 goal scorer I've ever seen. Can't skate, can't stickhandle, doesn't really hustle, sucks at defense. I think JT is so good that he's able to mask Moulsons deficiancies. |

I'm at the point where I've just decided to abandon that altogether.....NYI78 is doing a great job actually talking about NHL hockey over here, so there really isn't any point in saying anything on her blog anymore. Eventually, you'd have to hope someone will figure it out..... |

Next time, tell him this......hockeydb.com......tells you everything you would need to argue any point, except maybe a point about a strict defensive defensemen- but other than that, you're good to go. It just amazes me that writers (even writers who get PAID to write) make statistical errors, and talk sh*t out their a$$es about things that take about 15 seconds to refute. You simply can't be THAT lazy. |

I think it gets done, maybe during the season or even training camp. He is too big of a part of this team to let get away. - Islesfan28
Mid year and if he doesn't sign they will trade him. I think they like him though because Moulson and Tavares represented the Islanders at the Winter Game press conference... |

He maybe be overrated but he is a 30 goal scorer. A first round pick and a prospect at least. He could also headline a package for a top winger, dman, or goalie. |
