Dan...if you are indeed our new blogger, Congrats and very well deserved. It will be like the old days when the blogger actually gave us real Isles news and it sparked some good conversations in the thread. And....knew who Jonas Hiller is and what position Kyle Wellwood plays.
Kidding aside, this is great news for us all and looking forward to seeing you on the front page of the site. I like your "interactive blogs" too. Great idea. The interviews have been very informative too. |

He should stay the course... its finally reaping its rewards.
Your Mick remark explains your Garth remark.
I don't see how people give him credit for basically not driving the team bus off a cliff.
You say his moves are "Reaping rewards?" What planet are you living on???
8th seed in a shortened season where Philly & NJ tanked??? You're giving credit to Garth and/or Cappy for that? Unless Garth inflicted Brodeur's injury his "stay the course" approach has yielded nominal results. If there's no JT on this team, we're picking top 5 maybe top 3. Which for JT's first 3 years, we did pick top 5.
We got no better in goal, we lost a top-minutes dman (Streit) w/o replacement and JT is still head & shoulders above every other forward on the team with no one to HELP HIM out. AND he's keeping his buddy/puppet coach on the bench who can be out-coached by a hot pretzel with mustard. (I looked it up....Mustard IS one of the more intelligent condiments).
Just about any person on this site could have performed Garth's job the past four years and reaped the same rewards....he's slightly better than auto-pilot. - jmo16

no argument on all those points. going back to orig post, I was replying to the NYI178 EDIT: Dan's reply about forecasted standings and where Isles will be.
PMB is just this years Boyes flier. I like the addition of CC. Alot. But he's not Butch Goring - nor is the team on the verge as they were when Butch joined them.
But everyone in here talks about the prospects making the team, mostly, "if they're NHL ready" rather than "if they're better" than the guy holding the spot currently.
Garth is "holding" spots, basically for the kids and I wish it were the other way around. SO, the overall point was that I think the team got better(tho Nino will be the x factor, later on) thru addition and being a year older. But in the redefined conference, I think we're gonna be down to the wire fighting for No. 7 or 8 spot.
Good players were available and the new arena is one more year and we have cap space. This is the question I want Garth to answer. What the hell is he waiting for?
There were some VERY good player deals & signings and we didn't do much. He's said 4 years in a row now that he has the $$$ and assets, yet no one significant has been acquired. I'd rather have picked up Jagr than PMB as a one year deal.
The publicity and coverage alone would be a positive thing for a franchise about to move to a new arena. His mantra must be "Stay the course....wouldn't be prudent..." - jmo16
Just out of curiosity who are these players you're referring to? While I was hoping (against hope) that we might make a large impact signing or two this year, I can't say I felt it was a must, given the market climate. I thought most contracts this season were overpayments while it was a subpar free agent market overall. The cliche goes, 'sometimes the best moves are the ones you don't make'. The team is a playoff contender, with a lot of young talent and a boatload of available cash. Frankly, I don't want to spend any of that cash until we are just a move or two away from being an outright contender. I certainly don't think any of this years 'available' players were going to put us in that category.
I'm just not sure that a blanket statement of "there were moves to be made" is really accurate given the state of the team and free agent market. Perhaps you could provide specific examples but I'm also not so sure that the big names even gave us consideration.
It's been a long painful rebuild but I think we can all agree we're no longer a doormat. As long as we continue a steady improvement, I'm not going to worry about the deals that could have been made as they could have just as likely sabotaged the whole rebuild.

Not a real big Cure fan.. A couple of their tunes are good. As for his playing, I can't play that well. So, I can't say much. But his solo in the above youtube video, posted by SC, blows. |

Mick could possibly be the worst guitar player ever that earned millions of dollars playing guitar. CC DeVille is right there with him
JP>just about anyone that plays guitar.

He totally knew it. He admitted it publicly. In fact he choose that style to compensate for their lack of talent. So he sucked but he was smart. |

That's what it's all about, more than raw talent, imo...kicking ass at the music and scene that fits your abilities and style. I think some of the most talented guitarists out there are boring as hell to listen to...they basically just show off speed and knowledge at the expense of actually creating good or interesting music. It's all impressive stuff, for sure, but nothing I'm going to sit back and listen to while having a beer after work. |

Guys like; David Gilmore, Eric Clapton and Mark Knofler that made great music by using more minimal efforts. |

I think he's referring to the Joe Satriani/Yngwie Malmsteen types. The guys that are more concerned with showing off how good they are than making entertaining music (to be fair I do like some of Satriani's stuff). I also like a lot of Stevie Ray Vaughan's music. But with SRV its not always about the guitar.
The refreshing thing about the Ramones is they knew who and what they were and didn't try to hide it. They wanted to be rock stars and they wanted to play fun songs. There was no BS about it being "Art" or any of that nonsense. |

Fantastic player. I understood. I just like that type of player better. It was my preference. The guys that made music you can listen to without getting a head ache. |
