NO every fan-base does NOT show up in the Eightieth hole Grandstand at the PGA Championship, wearing their NHL team Jersey, and chanting "Go leafs Go" like some leaf fans did this past Summer.
To think that all NHL fans do this, is ridiculous.
I was at the Sens Opener this past Thursday, vs the Devils and there were leaf fans wearing wearing their leaf jerseys there, and that's just silly isn't it? - Doppleganger

This thread is about reactions and counter reactions to fans and media.
While it could have been an interesting analysis if we were just talking about the facts, the whole "leafs get no respect from the media and the oilers get coddled" angle is a big waste of time, frankly. |

I travel a lot. Hating Toronto is just the thing to do in cities. Having the Leafs shown the most by the networks is easily a reason over the actions of any fans and I think you know that.
My own media in Toronto has kissed Edmonton's butts because of their rebuild and laughed at the home team. I don't think it's too early to say the Edmonton rebuild is not working.
Kadri was laughed at and labeled a bust @ 19 by the hockey world. So I can judge the "Young Guns" on the Oilers.
I clearly was talking about last season, so it is disingenuous to pretend like I'm making my judgements based on less than 3 weeks of an NHl season.
Brian Burke making trades to get Kessel, Lupul, Gardiner, Phaneuf, Franson JVR, drafting Kadri and Rielly was much harder and better work that Edmonton's theory of being the worst team, doing nothing and collecting first overall picks. - RogerRoeper
If you think it's silly to call 19 year old busts and laugh at them, why perpetuate it with Edmonton's young guys? Or Colorado's or Montreal's?
I think it's a stupid practice to have labeled Kadri a bust and I've always said as much. It's stuff like this that makes this thread stupid: instead of simply examining the content of the moves the oilers and leafs made, you're lashing out at 19 year old kids because the media made fun of your 19 year old kid. Sour grapes.

So you think the Leaf hate out-West is because of fans wearing Leaf jerseys? Of course not.
The more the Senators organization tries to keep Leaf fans out of Sens home games, the more vocal it makes them. - RogerRoeper
That's a myth. There is no way the Senators have tried, or ever will try to keep leaf fans out of CTC. Sure they encourage Ottawa fans to buy tickets to those games, but there is no way that anyone buying in person, or online can be denied a ticket.
As a matter of fact there are numerous season ticket holders that live in Montreal, and even further East. If you've ever tried to buy tickets on E Bay, you would know that. I've bought tickets from a guy in Three Rivers in the past. Any leaf fan who wants to buy a ticker can get one, unless they're sold out.
So you don't think leaf fans out west, wearing their jerseys to a Flames vs Sharks game and acting like a-holes turns non leaf fans against leaf nation??
Then what is the reason? You're smart, you tell us. |

That's the title of the thread, but most of the posts have been about media perception. Big waste of time. |

Yeah they got a superstar for let's face it a superstar in Lindros (albeit an injured one), but everyone talks about the Avalanche as an example of why trading 1st overalls is the way to go when the trades that really set them up for a cup were acquiring Keane, Roy and Claude Lemieux for peripheral players. |

You're right. And some oilers fans will be relieved to note that two of the Avs' better trades were not ones involving their 1st overall picks.
Andrei Kovalenko, Martin Rucinsky and Jocelyn Thibault for Patrick Roy and Mike Keane.
Colorado trades Wendel Clark for Claude Lemieux.
The Oil could definitely trade their first overall guys. It might help a lot in the go-ahead. But shrewd moves need to happen up and down the board. Simply shuffling away former 1st overalls and expecting it to immediately pay dividends is in effect similar to simply drafting 1st overalls and expecting it to immediately pay dividends.

The damage control press conference did not indicate anything in the works, in terms of trades.

I don't control the team I cheer for, although there has been a lot of change since when I posted that like a year ago. |

And yet the team is on target to select first overall in next Spring's Entry Draft.
At least the Senators did something, not that I think Dave Cameron is the answer, but with such a young team, Murray had to buy some time for them to develop.

Of the 3 players quebec took 1st overall Sundin, Nolan, Lindros.. None were on the Teams that won the Cups in Colorado in 1996 and 2001.
So great point
Of the only example that has happened all the players were traded.
Mctavish better get on the phones and make some amazing trades - senstroll
he can't
Other GM's aren't dealing in good faith (whatever the F that means) OR he is being offered "pennies on the dollar".
Apparently he doesn't understand how a hockey player's value decreases when he underperforms.
Of course, if he is contacting teams like CBJ about Johansen he isn't going to have much luck |

I'm just saying when you necropost from a year ago, it seems like you're implying that I'm ignorant to what MacT said at press conference. I'm aware of what he says, but like most people, I'm not prescient.
I'd be fine with MacT firing Eakins if that's the something you're after. I almost guarantee that trying to fetch a deal for Ryan Nugent-Hopkins in this climate would prove to be a worse move than changing a coach would ever be. |

While it sucks to do nothing, I can't envision a trade where the Oilers get smoked in terms of value but come out with pieces that make the team work better. I can envision trades where we LOSE in terms of value but get better, but if anyone can list 5 pennies on the dollar trades the Oilers could make that would help their team, maybe I'll understand the "trade for the sake of trading" stance a little better.
Given the fact that there's constant rumblings about the team, I'd imagine MacT is looking out for deals where we get the specific parts we need and they get more talent. |

FYI, leafs haven't won (frank) all in a long time. Unless the goal is to make the playoffs once every 10 years, they aren't any further ahead. |

I think ownership just wants to ride out the season, draft as high as possible and then make "something" happen in the off season. That could be a trade of one of their young stars, a coaching or GM change or a combination of some or all.
They just can't keep doing the same thing every season with the same cast of characters getting the same results. |

They may have turned the corner this season. If their starter can keep healthy and not get injured, they should make the playoffs in the weak-east. |
