I cannot imagine Yakupov here. Therrien would blow a gasket with his lack of back checking and offensive zone turnovers. Same thought process with a guy like kessel. Could totally imagine that offensive ability but players need to be able to play at both ends of the ice here. Guy like Sharp fits that mold.

Hence Sharp being the pipe dream!

The difference I see between EDM and here is the strength/quality/quantity of leadership both on and off the ice. EDM is a mess so why would you listen to any of the losers "guiding" the ship. Here, Therrien commands respect and the leadership core (including markov) won't allow you to BS. I'm not saying it's a fool-proof idea but worst-case scenario, he doesn't buy in and you can deal him to Washington (or wherever) and they will embrace his O-first style.

I agree that Yak would find himself in a very different organization in Montreal. He has been on a ship with engines off and no one at the helm. Surrounded with the leadership that Montreal has would greatly benefit his hockey game. I would not like to see Beaulieu go in return. Beaulieu is a good example of what strong leadership can do for a young player. Therien would have to roll up his sleeves with Yak, but if the price was not out of this world, I think it is worth a chance

BTW, This would also mean that MB would have two bridge contracts to negotiate this summer.

4 big ones actually. Yakupov, Galchenyuk, Beaulieu and Tinordi.

if he does, it's probably gonna be Lupul. way cheaper than a guy like Sharp, and more realistic.

edit: aaron ward floated the idea on tsn690, i think mckenzie as well?

Tinordi and Beaulieu have zero negotiating power. Tinordi will take whatever they offer, Beaulieu will take $2.5M or less, probably closer to 1.75. Galchenyuk will be interesting. I don't see the need for a bridge deal on the team's end as you already know what he will become at the very least (50pts) so why not see if his agent is an idiot and will take $4M per for 5 years rather than 2 years at $3M then 8 at $7M

Yak, easy bridge too

Tinordi will not take whatever they offer him. He'll want a 1 way contract guaranteed or will request a trade. His father has already gone on record to say that maybe it's time for a different organization.

Guess the point is that there are negotiations that will need to take place, or hard decisions about where these guys would fit. Either way, I don't see Yakupov being of interest.

But with that said, 3 years from now can you imagine a Scherbak-Galchenyuk-Yakupov line?

yea I wasn't even thinking 1 vs 2-way. I meant if they offer him $1M for a year, he'll sign it happily.

and you meant to say a 1st line of Yakupov - DD - Weiss right?

It's paraphrasing but he said he's in the last year of his ELC and needs to decide whether Montreal is the right organization for him

he has no leeway in the negotiations, he's an rfa for a couple more years.
