Fan101 says the isles only want barzal at center because they want him to center jhs and mdc........OK then - Upstate_isles
I think they want him at center because they see him as the future 2C behind Tavares (or insurance in case he walks). They may not have ever foreseen any of the other guys being skilled enough to inherit that role, so they want to groom Barzal for it from the get-go. |

Could be but why say flat out he can't play the wing? Just seems like an odd thing to say however he could be the most talented guy on the team after jt christ butch just said get himy more ice to get comfortable |

I mean I can't speak for them, but they are obviously very high on him and I think they want him to learn the position from the start. I think they want him to be a center and nothing else. I don't think they were ever this high on Nelson, Strome, Lee or anyone else...so they didn't have a big issues shuffling them around.
I get the general aversion to patience and don't totally disagree, I would be far more concerned with seeing management get impatient and start getting desperate now rather than stay the course. With Beauvillier, Barzal, and JHS all emerging as really good NHL prospects...I'd rather see the Islanders make a move and get that winger rather than thrust Barzal into a position that they don't ultimately want him to play. |

Barzal turnover leads to a goal and that pretty much spells the end for Barzal |

You may be correct I'm not in a rush with him as long as we see what he's got. If he's not ready then he's not and send him back. He's a little lost in d zone |

It just seems like he is different from all the others and I think it's ok to handle him a bit differently.
Someone has to adequately fill that 2C spot soon and if they're going to go the free agent route then they're going to be paying a guy ~$6M/yr well into his thirties. A) That's literally impossible with the cap right now and B) if they cleared the necessary cap space to make that option plausible then they'd be gutting the team's depth.
The good news for Barzal is literally every other player is playing like full-blown dog sh it this period. |

I refuse to call Therrien a good coach, but it's evident why Capuano is a terrible one. |
