Crap I was just going to say how glad we didn't trade Schmaltz in a deal for Duchene
fingers crossed - HamiltonHawk
Schmaltz is pretty close to untouchable. Young, speed, cost controlled, and worked his butt off in the off season. Never make that trade and I don't believe he was ever in the conversation.
As for Hossa cap space......would sure love to get Athanasiu from the Wings. Talk about speed ??? |

Ah boo, Kane lost an assist on Seabrook's goal. Hartman’s shot apparently hit Hayden before bouncing to Seabrook. |

As great as our offense was tonight, the defense was very impressive as well. And THAT is what I wanna see moving forward, because i know we're gonna be able to score plenty of goals.

29 shots on Crawford, but the Hawks did a nice job clearing the rebounds away from him - not much extended pressure on him. |

In 2013-14 and 2014-15, the Hawks got a lot of slack for how their shot suppression sucked but they typically outshot their opponent, kept most shots against low quality and/or with less sustained pressure. There just needs to be balance if they're going to allow higher shot totals to make sure they're supporting their goalie on those shots. |

At least the 5 v 5 play was slightly above average I suppose. - HawkintheD
The window has closed on this team. Bubble team at best. |

Has to be the first time a defending Cup Champion came out the next season and gave up 15 goals in the first 2 games. Possibly first team ever regardless of the Cup |

Schmaltz went 33% at the dot....trade him!
But seriously, good to see the Hawks win 55% of the draws and stayed focused. The foot never game off the gas pedal, unless you count those last 10 seconds in the corner at the end. |

Defense wasnt really pressured too much tonight. Will be interesting to see how they do with more pressure and faster clubs. Pens looked like the Kings tonight. |

WoW. Schmaltz, glad he seems OK...didn't look good....had multiple Pens fans at my house and they were all heading out midway first to "get food"...
Lets keep it going. I am not gonna critique any player in such a good win against a team that is clearly playing like they are inebriated...lets get the next one. I liked the Czech imports, thought they did well, especially Kempny....give it a few weeks and he and 44 are gonna be great.
Saad is a fair player..Welcome back Sharpie...Hartsy with lotsa points, etc., etc., etc...Oh yea...88 seems to be decent at hockey. I challenged my son (a Pens fan) to "pass like that"...his response is, "i can, i just don't do it"...I wanted to punch him. |

AA 15 for 21 at the dot! Maybe moving him off of Kane's line means he's facing off against less talented center men, which could improve his numbers? It could be a fluke but good start regardless. |

I tuned in after it was 6-1. went back and saw the first period...
the pens were a team that did not give a poop from one of the bench to the other...forwards were lazy; awful TO by crosby...malkin looked liked he was on a vodka hangover..and there dmen were getting beat up and down the ice and looked in a daze; even the rare moments they competed saad and company beat'em
the hawks came out with a huge rush looking like they had something to prove..WTF 10 goals all 5 on 5??? crashing the net, pucks on net and traffic in front and throw in the magic of kane and smaltz and you get a major blow out |

Was very excited to see Saad and a high ceiling young goalie come back for Panarin. Panarin's production has the potential to be replicated by guys like Schmaltz and ADB but Saad's two way play and speed and size and possession game is in desperate need this year with Hossa out.
If 19 and a solid 3rd pairing can get going by January Hawks can make a serious run.
