Don't know why Kane didn't get to that pass from Keith at the point right before Mathews won it. He must have been gassed but still a piss poor effort that cost them a point. |

How is that weird? You're like his #1 fan.
Thought he had a good game too. Give the Leafs credit but to a certain degree I think the Hawks got the lead and took their foot off the gas...or just sucked.
Hard to tell but I still like what I'm seeing overall after three games and think this team will be fun to watch most nights. - HawkintheD
I am big enough to admit if I am wrong. He has progressed. I am optimistic that the kid is getting it figured out. Tonight was a rough one for Rutta I thought. So it's a work in progress.
If Leafs get another D-man or two, or a kid or two develops they could go a long way.

It seems like the team let up after getting out to that 2-0 lead. That seems like a familiar pattern from a few seasons ago. I hope they don't make it a habit. They missed some good scoring opportunities in the first and on the PP.
Also, this is a better team with Schmaltz centering that second line.

The refs kinda stole the momentum of the game with all the faceoff crap and light calls. Not very consistent when they didn't call the first two games like this. What I don't buy from the refs is that they had a problem with the draw so many times on the first attempt, but didn't once call anything on the second attempt at the draw. This is more about trying to send a message then call a game correctly. Either way, Hawks took the foot off the gas tonight and they did miss Schmaltz. Probably going to see a couple lineup tweaks for tomorrow, and probably Cody Franson will play. - breadbag
Not sure how the Hawks games have been but they've called it like this in on all 3 of the Leafs games. Leafs have been shorthanded 19 times in 3 games. |

Hawks don't typically commit that many penalties - they're one of the least penalized teams in general. I think the previous two games got called as much but the Hawks just didn't slash as much. Which makes sense considering they were in control those games vs this one. |

The rules have changed, defenceman can't use the stick like they have in the past, so they need to adapt. Its about time the league stopped ignoring the blatant fouls, hope it continues.
Game was played at high speed, terrific goaltending, 7 goals total - not gonna see many better games in the season. - RickJ
I am with you...have female doged about this for years...and happy to see them making the calls...all the pens do disrupt the flow but eventually the players will adapt and the 5 on 5 will be better and see more scoring |

Man, I was just thinking Seabrook and Keith looked pretty good against that fast team lol. Not perfect but I thought Seabrook esp played pretty smart this game. The defense was ~fine minus some hiccups but the issue was with the forwards imo. They just cover or support the defense properly. - L_B_R

I’ll take 5 of a possible 6 points any time. There are other teams out there off to a worse start. The Oilers are 1-2 with losses to two of the worst teams in the West - Vancouver and Winnipeg. The Penguins are 1-1-1, Montreal and the Rangers are 1-2 while Nashville is 0-2 Vegas is 2-0 as are Detroit and NJ. What does this mean? Absolutely nothing, the season is only 3 games old. |

What is this Jedi mind trick you are using?
(I believe it might be logic and common sense.)
In all seriousness, you and LBR have it right. Small sample size and a whole lotta hockey left to play. Also a whole lot to like so far this year. |

Tough loss ,almost snuck out the two . Take the point on the road against a very good young fast team . The Leafs have been very fortunate with injuries since last year ,they will taste that soon enough it just the nature of the game , be interesting to see how they respond .Schmaltz was missed tonight , top 9 seemed a little out of sync . It really shows how nice it is to have AA on that 3rd line . Frosberg was outstanding tonight ,maybe a little fatigued late in the game . Q keeps rolling out the same old All Stare team from 2015 on the PP and OT ,they change up the PK system may be time to do the same on the PP .. |

Speed counts. Speed is continuing to be the trend, eh.
Well I don't know about the Santa Monica Freeway or the Anaheim Ducks going with a different definition. Last night both ex Blackhawks were in th e lineup: Vermette and D Rasmussen. I suppose they add Kesler upon return from injury. Just add Rozy and you have the all too slow brigrade

Forsberg looked great. Leafs played faster in the last two and OT. They deserved the two points. Move on and beat the Habs tonight. |

6-5 for 54.5% - HawkintheD
Hey D,
not having Schmaltz in there last night was really noticeable. At least AA was over 50%...

Speaking of faceoff percentage, the way the linesmen are tossing a C out at every single draw... I think Y. Perreault should be working with the secondary options more.
Saad was 0/8 last night which makes a big difference.
I know the 2nd guy in is hesitant because they dont want to get a penalty... but to go 0/8 is not a good. |

Coach Q went back to his old ways. Kane, Toews, and Saad all over 22 mins of ice time and Mathews with 18mins, so who do you think is going to be a little fresher in OT. HMMMMMMM Roll 4 lines. To me it looked liked Wingels and Hayden held their own. Kero looks a step slow (probably still nursing that injury) and AA is way too slow and there was no rhythm in that 2 and 3 line.
Now the Hawks play again tonight, how do you think Kane, Toews and Saad will be come the 3rd period.
Just hoping for a good start. |

I've always viewed him as a perfectshinest.
He doesn't need me to defend him though.
Wouldn't be the same without him. |

Wasn't able to watch, but obviously you and Charlie from CSN were watching two different games;
4. Forsling-Rutta pairing strong again.
The Blackhawks spent a lot of time in their own end, but Gustav Forsling and Jan Rutta had to be the best pairing in the loss.
Rutta scored a goal for the second straight game, and added an assist later on for his first multi-point game in the NHL. He now has two goals and two assists during his three-game point streak.
Forsling has also recorded a point in three consecutive games, all of which have been assists. He slapshotted a perfect pass off the end boards that ricocheted right to Panik, who buried home Chicago's third goal. Forsling finished with five shot attempts, tied for the team lead with a pair of blocked shots and logged 16:23 of ice time, 3:26 of which came on the penalty kill. |

Mornin' DK. I like AA but yeah I think Schmaltz gives the 2nd line a different look and another guy for other teams to worry about with his speed and creativity. |

I watched the game in FF last night after working a 13 hour day, only watching the goals and OT, so I can't really comment on the defense, but It seems Charlie's focus is on their offense. The only thing he mentions about their primary role is 2 blocked shots by Forsling. Speaking of which, it's pretty pathetic that 2 blocked shots was tied for team lead considering all the shot attempts the Leafs had! |
