And he's getting thrown out of a LOT of faceoffs for his old habits, putting more pressure on the others (that can't win to begin with) |

Only saw the third period last night. I noticed that McDavid was tossed frequently from faceoffs as well.
Also, to my untrained eye, the Hawks seem to be positionally challenged on the ice often. They don't seem to know where anyone else or the puck is. |

Tough to blame Yanic, or any faceoff coach for that matter with the rule changes. Again, so early into the season. Too much shooting from the hip.
With that said, Hawks did well considering the back to back nights and still facing a barrage of shots.
That McDavid assist was a beauty to watch, but someone should have been more physical on him. Then again, easier said than done at the pace McDavid moves at.
Toews missing that breakaway (and man, do anything but that shot) really came back to haunt them.
Onto Arizona.

So is he part of the issue? I know the man was a God among men in terms of winning faceoffs, and he did wonders with Kruger, however, he hasn't done much with the current centers, and hasn't done with much else either.

Not a big surprise IMO, how many new guys in this lineup this season? And in fact even individual games with guys being rotated in and out of the lineup - Oesterle playing his first game; Murphy getting 2 games after being out 3 or 4, Kero in and out etc. |

he had some good looks and chances...that is a positive but as Q said "no finish"..
interesting to watch kane T up with the slapper 3 or 4 times from the circles...not his usual shot selection...

Another great observation, Rick. We micro-analyze which way Seabrook or Keith turn on plays and we forget that crisp, smart execution is built through continuity and knowing where your teammates, linemates and partners are going to be.
I would just like to see them settle on some pairings at minimum, if not the top 3 lines and stick with it for the sake of continuity.
I did not think Kero was very good last night or the las time he played.

Especially after the 2 boarding penalties (how those were not majors is beyond me). That is on Q. I hate the stick-checking he forces the guys to do. McDavid would not have seen OT if the response was correct.

It looked to me like the ice was bad. Pucks were jumping off sticks from both teams |

JJ does the paid subscription come with a mute button??????
It would be worth the price to not have to read the same whiners spewing the same crap over and over again
Before the season most said the hawks wouldn't be lucky to be 500
Guess they have to make a new thing to cry about

I'm ready for Duchene. Put Schmaltz and Kane on his wings and go! Would ADB + Forsling + 1st rounder get it done?
Last year he won over 60% of his draws, can kill penalties, and will make the PP better. I'm so f'n sick of the Hawks' terrible PP the last few years. I've been in the "sign a #4D" camp but I think they need a #2C more.
Other option is a #4C who wins draws and kills penalties like Kruger did. |

All i know is Q was asked about the power play the other day before the Edmonton game
His response was i want more shooting from center ice, like Seabrook has a nice heavy shot from there,
Last night's game, i counted 2 shots from there
So much for listening to your coaches
Q needs to put someone in there who's willing to shoot the puck from the blue line |

Been saying it for a few years now. The team as built isn't so bad. Need a change in coaching philosophy, whether that comes from Q (doubtful) or somebody new. And maybe move one "untouchable" if they've gotten into bad habits (entitlement, lack of motivation, whatever)
Do they actively "scout" for coaches? You'd think the organization would have plan b and c covered, even if they're highly loyal to Q.

The thing that disturbed me the most was how hard it was for this team to get back in the offensive zone on the 5 on 3 |

I'm sure Sakic would want more, plus it doesn't work cap-wise.
I've been wondering if trading one of the defensemen (i.e. Kempny or Forsling) for a bottom 6 centre may be the way to go. Carrying 8 defensemen always sucks and there is a clear need for help in the bottom 6 (especially bottom 3). |

That was rough. No fear from the defenders, just went in and took their lunch money in the corners. |

Then he needs to stop putting fricking Duncan Keith on the PP if that is what he wants. I look at how the PP struggles and there are two players that stick out Keith and Toews. They are beyond predictable on the PP.
Problem is those are two of your franchise corner stones. Won't go over well if they don't get a lot of PP time.
No one is worried about Keith on the point which basically makes it 4 on 4 and is anyone really scared of Toews down low. His only move from his spot down low is to try and cram it short side or he flips it back out to Kane.
19 buries one of his 6 or 7 primo chances its an easy win. Panik and Saad both set him up for some prime scoring chances.
Anyone know how much this team is practicing? Line chemistry is bad. Even the Toews line looks lost at times positionally. 3rd line complete train wreck.
