I know Q said earlier that he wanted Oesterle to get games but that means having to take Kempny out. Kempny got the first 7 games. |

In Kempny's last game he played, I recall a really bad pass he made that almost was intercepted right in the slot. The telecast was switching cameras when it occured but Foley was announcing and got very excited as if it was a bad choice and almost cost us a goal. That might be the reason.

Yes, and I believe he opened one or two in Detroit after he left Chicago. I have a snazzy Polaroid with Chelios and the Cup at his old Chicago Chili Bar, they had it there after a game at the UC. I dare not touch it....... - ItHossaGood
There was one in Dearborn and the other downtown detroit a few years back. |

Maybe......but Duncan Keith makes that error all the time too and nobody says boo. Norris Trophy winners also make mistakes......that's a poor reason to sit him. Q is stunting the growth of a good young defenseman. If you're not going to play him, trade him for something in return...... and then we'll watch him turn into a top 4 dman elsewhere.

If he plays, another young guy sits. It's not ideal for anyone. The 8 man rotations makes it happen. They should honestly just move Franson. |

There is a new Portillo's next to Gurnee Mills as you approach the state line (West side of the highly profitable patronage tollway from Six Flags).
BTW, made that drive to MSP every weekend for 2 years. PM me if you need a shortcut. |

Kempny leads team with a +6, hmmmm I like Kempny over Forsling, but who has more upside? |

Kempny is the more complete physical package. Wheels, shot, ability to throw some wood. Just let Kempny play for gods sake Q. |

or a better question, who is gonna play some meaningful minutes during the playoffs?
Now, a bigger observation - are we different than the team from last year? Right now, i am not so sure. what i will be looking forward at are: 3rd period dominance, rolling four lines, and special teams and we handle a healthy blues, stars, and winnepeg. |

I like Kempny but I prefer Forsling. I see Kempny reacting to the play instead of anticipating (puck-chasing) whereas Forsling has quietly been improving in his end. Is it just me or has he filled out some too? |

Personally, I don't mind Kempny sitting. Oesterle has played pretty well and we are talking about the #5/#6 slot, which isn't make or break. I think Q will probably lean towards starting Kempny against heavier teams and maybe Oesterle against some of the more skating teams. |

If you want to get an opinion on Oesterle, then he has to play meaningful minutes for the same seven games Kempny had. So who sits? Murphy has sat a couple out already. He has the most experience and has looked better lately on third pair.
I totally agree I also want Kempny in there. Sometimes you have to make players hurt by sitting them out. When back in there they want to impress but if they sit again, now you are sending a message what they have to concentrate on and do not try to do too much. Young guys just get to proud and have to learn the hard way. Bonehead plays is a good way to draw ire, especially if you are a young guy. Of course the still "great" Keith and Seabrook make mistakes - everyone does, some more than others. But you cannot sit your best defensemen
Because while they may have slipped some, they are still the best. They have a lot of experience and Q + Bowman know they have to win and make playoffs to feel their job is hopefully secure. I just believe too much TOI for Seabrook and Keith and they will not be fresh down the stretch. To which I reply, give the kids more Pp and p.k duty. |

To: those who want to acquire Duchesne
I feel better hoping and sort of expecting that Forsling will get better, more consistent. I sure hope so, because I really believe if you see enough improvement in the young guys....one of your top two gets traded AFTER the season. The money saved could go to pay increase in an expiring contract.
I also want to stress, DeBrincat is not in play nor is our #1 2018. It is rather obvious to myself if I am a rival GM I am not trading a top player for a package which includes a small size skill guy who meedles too much in battle and has not learned to keep his head up
Now I do love having this kid DeBrincat and maybe Sikula may be our depth skill scoring down the stretch - both are good for playoffs should we qualify.
Because we have a center with lots of mileage who is switching to a skating skill concentration (He could still play many years despite a lot of concussions already), because Schmaultz and DeBrincat are smallish centers whom are long term question marks vis-a-vis durability + concussions, I therefore want to draft a center or possibly consider trading for a center after the season.
This #1 2018 should not be dealt no matter what. Who and what you consider drafting is just guesswork right now. I suspect some want Osterle to play well so that a Forsling and ? may be traded. But I prefer to keep and not even not add to our blueline crew. Let them improve, live and die with them
Have to believe if one of the young guys bombs out that is why Bowman retained Svedberg, Pokka and Gus at Rockford. Snuggerud probably needs a full year learning and improving playing defense, although his offense is NHL ready.
Also I do suggest if another young guy is playing well by season end, you might be able to break in a Carlsson or the Finnish guy next season. I view Norell, Dahlstrom as needing to take next step in development because all they represent now is depth or third pair due to injuries. The seasoned Gus, Svedberg, Pokka get the call unless one of the other really opens eyes. What'sd up with Press btw? Rotating dman or injury at the Rock? |

NHL and NBC's featured game of the night is the rebuilding Red Wings vs the woeful Sabers.
I guess a battle between the leagues top 2 players and a matchup between the Oilers and Penguins somehow gets passed over, what a shame. Very pathetic from the NHL's point of view. The Penguins blogger just wrote a nice little piece on the subject, couldn't agree more with what he said. |

It is the NHL what do you expect? Both those fan bases will watch regardless of whether its on national TV. Casual fans won't watch it regardless....
Oilers v. Pens could actually draw casual fans if its on National TV. Obviously the NHL does not want or need more fans. |
