Thanks for the link... I think involuntary manslaughter would be the most appropriate sentence. She was obviously under trained and shouldn't have even been a cop if she can't tell the difference between a gun and a taser, or at least look to make sure what's she's holding before firing in that situation... a couple of seconds to be sure would have avoided this whole thing... I'd hate to see this lady go to jail for 10 years all the same though...

i changed my mind. the officer shouldn't face any charge imo. the guy brought it on himself by being a criminal and running instead of once they informed him of the warrant. Anything that happened flowed from his own criminal behavior since he had an outstanding warrant.

you get what you pay for. we have a distorted view in canada because our systems are similar yet so very different.

2 great examples are cops and teachers. in canada, both of these professions are paid decently (to well.)

in the us, they are woefully underpaid (in most jurisdictions as budgets are mostly derived from area taxes mostly home).

you get what you pay for and that is candidates (in policing) that are barely qualified and are barely trained (budgets are spent on toys not training.)

put it another way: if you have career options, you're not becoming a cop. so the pool of candidates is basically that of a minimum wage position.

State police actually get better trained.

I agree she shouldn't have been a cop. But this is where hiring quotas and relaxed standards end up getting people killed. Yeah, she's an idiot, but she wasn't trained properly, in a volatile situation, and it shows in the end result. Correctional officers get even less training in prisons.

Bottom line though Chris Rock basically gave a public service message telling black people how to act around the police.

Penalties For Resisting Arrest In Minnesota

The possible sanctions for resisting depend on the severity and dangerousness of the conduct alleged by police. Minnesota law punishes resisting arrest as a felony if:

The person knew or should have known the act created a risk of death, substantial bodily harm, or significant damage to property; or
The act did cause death, serious bodily injury, or substantial property damage.
Felony resisting arrest carries a maximum state prison term of five years, a fine up to $10,000, or both fine and imprisonment.

Resisting arrest is a gross misdemeanor punishable by no more than one year in prison, a $3,000 fine, or both if the act or threat was forceful or violent but did not cause death, substantial bodily injury, or substantial property damage. Otherwise, misdemeanor resisting arrest carries a maximum sentence of 90 days, a $1,000 fine, or both.

This is why they should expect different outcomes. There are sentences in place for such behaviour, it's not on the police force to dole out justice they see fit in their eyes.
