Do you mean CPP payments? I believe that’s federal $. Retirees can’t really afford to move to BC, unless it’s the middle of nowhere. If you don’t already own a home here (that you bought decades ago), there’s no way you can afford one now on a pension.

I was more referring to the Healthcare costs, as a lot of retirees have been coming from out of province to retire here and are most ones with some serious medical needs.
From my understanding, the cost gets borne by the province in which you are living(retired in) not the province that you spent your working days in.

I see. Yes, I believe that when you move provinces, you apply to the health authority to become a resident. I’m pretty sure I had to do that when I moved to Alberta in the early 2000’s. I never actually used the healthcare system for anything so I’m not sure, but I imagine any costs for treatment would have been on that Province. There are federal transfers to help smooth out increased costs from province to province, but the lack of money coming into BC has been in the news lately…

Personally I don’t have an issue with someone working hard in Alberta in Oil or whatever and then retiring in BC where it’s actually pleasant to live day to day, if they can afford it… we’re all Canucks.

Those undesirable provinces should have to pay the bill for their former residents.

Yeah, I get your point. It’s just that there are jobs that need doing in parts of the country that are less appealing, and I don’t think people should be penalized for doing them. As for provinces looking after their people, I guess if the Federal and Provincial governments were more in tune with each other this type of thing would be less of an issue.

There's a federal transfer as a basic standard for Canadians and after that provinces top up their own system.

BC's health care is pretty good, but it's also the only place where people paid into it directly. MSP

All kinds of people retire in the maritimes and winter down south.

BC recently did away with individual payment contributions to MSP. It’s become employer sponsored to a certain degree I think.

They do in a round about way. They pay more while working into all the programs. That’s why Ontario and BC are scared Alberta may opt out of some federal programs. Because right now Albertans pay more into those programs because they have a younger working population. If Alberta pulls out of CPP for example premiums in Ontario and BC will scyrocket.

I used to pay around $135 a month for the three of us at the time.

Not sure if the alt-right realizes that they are forcing away long time conservatives with the bs antics they keep pulling off, but whatever, I like seeing minority governments.
If a government ever got 50%, then I am fine with a majority, but I can't remember the last time that happened, as I believe 40%, roughly, has been the highest, in the past 2 decades.
