How anyone can call Zelenski's Ukraine a "budding democracy" is laughable. It's not even better than Putin's "democracy" which is a sham. When the war started, it had already been rated worse in Europe and it's gotten even worse.

As far as the the USA... what did people think was going to happen when the USA supported the coup and then put Poroshenko in who was rabidly anti Russian?(Victoria Nuland's caught red handed in recorded phone conversation) Ukraine and Russia were allies up until that point. Do people think Russia was just going to pack up and give up their Crimea base that controls the Black Sea which they had since Catherine The Great? Would they idly stand by while Russians in the east were getting slaughtered by a NATO supported group of nationalist militias? NATO certainly didnt stand pat when this was happening in the Balkans. Was Russia going to let Ukraine become NATO eventually? USA knew all of this... they went forward anyways.

As far as escalations... it's a relief to see someone point the finger at the USA for this. They were not kidding when they said they would "Fight Russia until the last Ukrainian"(Lindsey Graham iirc). If they were sincere about helping them push Russia out, they wouldnt be slowly giving them the advanced weapons they are getting and got on it right away. They way they have been doing it is prolonging the war at a terrible cost of lives and especially on the suffering Ukrainians. They knew this.

If you read the Rand Corp papers regarding how to over extend Russia in Ukraine that they wrote a couple of years before the war, it pretty much follows a script of how it unfolded. Every bit of it... its was a recipe on crossing red lines to drag Russia into a crippling war for USA's long term benefit. It's really (frank)ing disgusting. This think tank has a half a century history of guiding America's forgien policy.

Ukraine was in talks with Russia very early in this war in Istanbul. USA got wind of it and Boris Johnson rushed there to assure them Russia was weak, had not enough arms to go more than a couple of months and NATO would give them everything they need. Russia had already pulled out of a large part of land they moved on during these talks which was part of the negotiation. Zelenski was going to concede a much smaller amount of land than Russia is now holding. USA/Britain pulled the carpet out from under the deal and here we are a year and a half later and Ukraine is in a much worse position and his in the midst of losing their 3rd army. Russia is outpacing the entire west on arms production and has help if they need more production.... USA (frank)ed Ukraine for their own agenda.... and why would anyone be surprised. They have been doing this endlessly since the end of WWII.
