I meant the christian arm of the party which seemed to come from Alberta and the Reform then Alliance parties. Their platforms seemed to be based on religious fundamentals. Peter Mackay handed over the former Progressive Conservative Party to Stevie & the Reforms and now you have this nasty party of white privilege.

I agree, the federal conservative party is a reform/alliance party mostly. You do still see some true PC parties in the east however, although I wouldn't include Ontario's current government in that group. They might be worse than the grassroots Alberta movement.

It's amazing to think that Ontario's GDP would place them around 19th largest in the world, right behind Saudi Arabia. Canada's 10th.

I'm not a fan of the province but can't deny they are vitally important to the country. Think about the people Ontario has elected to run their province. There has got to be better leadership choices out there. What are they thinking?

Player development has my attention such as EP, BB, BH, QH, etc. So does individual player performances (G, A, & P).

The October Calder race was fun while it lasted.

But I agree with you, I'm still in a 'wait and see' phase. I don't have confidence in this team yet.

Going in shortly for day 5 on the picket lines. So far we've dealt with court injunctions, guys getting hit by trucks, fire departments putting out our fires.

Management appears to be split on the issue. Some recognize our right to strike whereas others are using tactics from the days of yore.

This should continue to get more interesting.

I want Canada to have bullet trains. Those things are cool.

Canadian railways should get back into the business of moving people. Every other country in the world relies heavily on rail passenger transport except Canada. Weird.

For us the last contract was about wage, and we negotiated for nearly 2 years past our contract until we settled. The first year raise was ruled on arbitrarily to 3% (vs2%) by a judge, but I mean in the end they held onto our money for nearly 30 months and the raises were nearly at the rate of inflation vs record profits for the company.


Again, the company is showing record profits and has offered a 3% raise. However, our concern is railway safety. We've had 3 members die on the job in the past 24 months (3200 members) and the company wants to further restrict our rest in order to run with less members.

They also want a lifetime cap on prescription medication, which is unacceptable. I mean one accident at work is a whole lot of pain killers......possibly prescription drugs for mental health as well, and that's only if you survive.

I work in all elements of weather, on call around the clock (2 hour call) and the lightest piece of equipment weighs 30T. All it takes is a slip.

You might see a bullet train in the east or from Calgary to Edmonton, but aside from that due to the size of the country it's just not feasible now.

You need dedicated rails, which becomes expensive even if you're just twinning tracks.
Passengers are much lighter than freight but they're also much, much more valuable so I'm not sure what you gain or lose on the building standard. There is the issue of public crossings at grade which become much more dangerous if the trains are travelling at 200MPH. ( Imagine having bridges built everywhere )
