That's a silly point. It's a global pandemic.

My biggest takeaway from all of this is that this may ultimately be the death of capitalism
.

England already has another mutated strain and I'm being realistic about this pandemic - This is the new normal. Our government is going to have to provide a universal basic income, Amazon already has been making a drone army for door-step deliveries and people have already been alienated by social interaction more and more due to the internet and smart-phones.

I see a lot of people on here, who have always been on here, complaining about not being able to socialize normally anymore like they used to. Well, just because you gather in a large crowded area doesn't mean you're socializing and with apps like Tindr and Grindr, if you're Pegulaville, people already got rid of the "dating" aspect to a relationship and just cut straight to the sex and break-up.

My biggest issue right now is wanting to have a child but not knowing what a COVID infection might do to a baby in the womb - In addition to having just gotten laid-off today and not knowing what my money and employment future holds. The unemployment bug finally hit me and I'm at the point where my pride is less important than ever - Why have I been busting my ass in a toxic and unsafe work-environment during a pandemic when I can hopefully get approved for unemployment and make just as much after this new stimulus bill passes?

It's not going to stop me from looking for work, but I've never been unemployed and I'm 35. The place I was working just had an outbreak of COVID because some douche-bag moron kept coming to work, not wearing his mask, when his girlfriend, who is a nurse, was sick for TWO GOD DAMN WEEKS before he said anything and she tested positive. Then came back to work still not wearing his mask. And myself and 10-15 others got laid-off yet he still has his job? And no one was telling him to keep his mask on before or after? And he stands on his phone all night, takes 45 minute lunch breaks and despite being 24, disappears when the work needs to be done and leaves 50-60 year old men to do the hard labor?

That's what the company valued, apparently. People who listen to Ben Shapiro pod-casts, think masks are useless, were on the verge of tears when Trump lost, "told" on their co-workers on election night when they were happy and talking about it when it was clear Biden was winning and think COVID can't hurt them, and also have no regard for other people's well-being.

This is America. This is the norm. This is why COVID hasn't been contained and isn't going anywhere. We will see how the vaccine does, but this virus mutates very, very fast, and if you're reading about HOW it mutates, that's the scariest part. There will be hundreds of thousands more who die from this, still, especially in third-world countries where 9 out of 10 people won't be able to get the vaccine.

A capable goalie is 5x as important to this team than Brandon Montour who's our 3rd or 4th best RD playing LD. They chose to pay him 3 mil this year.

The overages are meaningless when you prioritize so poorly

that's a fair statement...however, i'm of the opinion that for buffalo this year, capable "backup" may be more apropos because i think they're ull-in on ullmark...

Oh boy...

First off, the vaccine will not be made available to the general public, meaning YOU and I, until probably June 2021.

But when other people REFUSE to follow guidelines, avoid social gatherings and wear their masks in crowded spaces, I have to worry about what risks others are taking, what the (frank) is so hard to understand about this?

Unreal.

Take responsibility for yourself. Sounds like you are.
Who gives a crap is SaberXYZ123 parties with 7 friends who by his account are living within the stated guidelines, and taking reasonable precautions. Seems like an unreasonable cheepshot IMO.

If you saw your coworker not wearing a mask repeatedly, why not address him in a non-confrontational manner, and escalate appropriately.

Sucks you got laid off. The business I'm in has dropped off a cliff the last 6 -8 weeks...my income followed suit.

I find most people are generally wearing masks and observing the 6 foot rule here. Certainly enough not to go ballistic.

My original point is that if Buffalo wanted to upgrade at goaltender, $1.5 million in overages isn't what would prevent that, not for someone that has average competence.

- buffalofan19

it was a reply to brodie...however, who are these competent goalies we're talking about?...and in addition, removing hutton from the equation won't be easy as his cap-hit would be some $1.75M if they waived him and he cleared...

so let's make that $3.25M

It necessitates other moves that otherwise wouldn't be necessary and gives additional cushion. If they had that $1.5, and you're indeed right that a moron could find another $1.5, then that $3m + waiving Hutton would almost pay for Kuemper. The overage very much does matter, and it's made all the more frustrating that the overage accomplished absolutely nothing for last year.

It really hasn’t.

This team gave Zemgus Girgensons that 1.5 mil instead of letting a 700-900k forward take his spot.

They also gave 2x that to Montour who’s playing out of position

It would’ve mattered if it looked like they had a clue in the first place

AFAIK, there are no and never have been any countries that could be considered to be truly communist. 4 right now exist as a proto-communism or socialist economy - China, Cuba, Laos, Vietnam.

We are already seeing the limits of capitalism and the beginning stages of it's death throes, with these stimulus packages and unemployment benefits. Giving with one hand, taking with the other. The global pandemic shifted things drastically. If we recover, so does capitalism, if it gets worse, oh boy....

The Nazis democratically elected Hitler, BTW.

America will never become communist because the working-class will never rise up against the middle and upper classes - The definition of communism requires a violent working-class revolution, taking back the means of production and land to evenly distribute it among everyone equally.

Leave alone the fact everyone in America thinks they're middle-class to begin with and the fact that the working-class worships the upper-class and elites. They are the very definition of the house-negroes they so romantically think they would have owned in colonial times. That most Americans identify with the slave-owners and think they would have been one back in the day says all you need to know.

I'm not arguing any of that. The point is, even the countries that had the strictest lockdowns, at least in the Western Hemisphere, are in a worse spot than they were when this all began. There are other factors in this too, when you consider the US. We have a larger population, and an overall much less healthy one too.

EDIT: by the way, China claims to have administered 160 million tests and has only reported 86k cases. They're really good at this thing...

And the original post regarding the Overage was to call out the incompetence of the GM at the time in building a case for his dismissal, who
- caused the Overage unnecessarily,
- wasted an asset in a trade for a throwaway player who was very, very expensive for his production ( if you can even call his numbers as "production")
- failed to rationalize the F and D positions
- failed to acquire a suitable player at a position of impact for 2 years

Each one, to varying degrees wasn't a reason to poop can him...or were they insurmountable, cumulatively they were.

Now, it has infact negatively impacted the ability of the current GM...but, sure, this GM could waste another asset in order to make a much needed move. Does it hold him back, no...but is piss poor asset management at the very least.
Add on to that the $800k overpayment to Girgs, probably an additional $400k minimum overpayment for what Tage has earned so far...

Once again, each one independent...not a big deal...stack them upon each other and it is at the very least a limiting factor.

At least we can have a discussion. I can't even touch the crap homie is posting.

The problem is, especially in a work-place, you can't do anything without it being confrontational - it's by design. And believe me, it wouldn't have made a difference and it would have caused a lot more problems than it solved. It's also not my job to approach the issues that management should have been addressing. I usually don't have time to abandon work to talk to a morally corrupt and ignorant co-worker who has already decided he's immune to the virus and doesn't have to wear his mask.

Most people are generally wearing masks and observing the 6-foot rule. Most could be 51% and still be most.

But believe me - Going from New York, which tried to do the right thing from the start and had it's governor villainized and demonized for it but ultimately took the most drastic measures the soonest, and generally had the majority of the population following the guidelines (except Sabretooth)... To Ohio, which only a few weeks ago made masks mandatory in public places, was almost a culture-shock.

Businesses mandated masks before the state did. However, none of it was being enforced until a couple weeks ago. I would say in New York, 1 in every 100 people weren't wearing their mask when I was out in public this summer. In Ohio, 1 out of every 5 or 10 weren't, it was that bad until a couple of weeks ago.

Then you had the Sturgis Motorcycle rally and both the Dakotas are in terrible shape right now, and it's hard to not see a correlation there. No one obeyed the state travel restrictions, and they weren't enforced anyway.

The fact of the matter is, while "most" took this seriously and have been taking every imaginable precaution, an almost equally large number of the population has done the opposite. Remember, "most" people voted for Hilary in 2016, but Trump won the Electoral college votes. "Most" people voted for Biden this past election but Trump STILL got more votes than he did in 2020.

"Most" could mean that 175 million of the 328 million Americans followed guidelines and took precaution. But that still would mean that 153 million Americans didn't. "Most" wasn't even close to good enough in this case. It needed to be "ALL" or damn near close to "ALL". It wasn't good enough and too many people have suffered because of it.

Which is right where the Sabres will be with the same goaltending tandem and Montour and Ristolainen playing top 4 minutes

The 1.5 mil overage is like issue #56 for this team

This team chose to give Girgensons 2.2 mil, Montour 3.1 mil, Eakin 2.1 mil and then went “oh poop we can’t do anything about the goalies now because of the overage”?

Nah, they just simply chose to keep the same goalies
