He acquired Jeff Skinner for absolutely nothing
He acquired Henri Jokiharju for absolutely nothing
His depth additions sucked. Like a lot of depth additions around the league
The guy was a bad GM because he failed to replace the 2C after ROR pouted his way out of town, and failed to trade Ristolainen for a forward
Everything else was always so exaggerated - sbroads24
If we're really going to litigate his tenure (and you know this because I said it a million times) in his final year he traded a 1st, 2nd, 3rd, a 4th and two 5ths for Miller, Montour, Vesey, Frolik and Simmonds. An entire draft of capital.
The guy flat out sucked |

Rossi is a much better prospect. I’ll stand by that statement purely based on numbers and their projections from different analysts
There are analysts and scouts who believe he could be as good as the third best prospect in that draft. There was a scouting profile I posted a while back where out of 7 different rankings he was a consensus top 7 pick and every single ranking had him between 4-7
The same scouting profile on Quinn had exactly 1 of the 7 rank him at or before 8 where we took him and as low as 23.
Rossi is the complete package player. He’s just small.
Quinn looks like a great pick if we drafted 12-15th - sbroads24
There’s high rated guys that disappoint from just about every draft
There’s always guys who exceed their draft
rankings
It’s sad that you’re focusing so much time & energy on something that can’t be changed-
especially when you’ve admitted to liking Quinn
Good grief |

Botts tried to nickel and dime trades and hoped they all turned out like skinner.
The stats and analytics did back the moves he made too - Sabretooth9
Pretty much
Frolik was good the previous year, was terrible here
Vesey kinda always sucked but he actually got better overall in Buffalo and wasn’t a bad trade at all
Sheary was good in Pitt and the numbers say was very misused by both Housley and Krueger

He’s a great 4th liner.
Seems like a great human being too.
Unfortunate circumstance but it’s a business and he’s not earning his salary. - Pegullaville
Agreed, but we’re stuck with him...
for now anyways |

The analytics were bad on vesey with the Rangers and actually improved dramatically while he was here. The analytics on Simmonds sucked. I assume the analytics sucked on Frolik in CGY as he had 10 points in 40 games |

Mitt resigned. 1 yr 874K
Which is what he deserves and earned
I mentioned this before. If mitts comes back a fat turd. Trade him immediately or this year. Let him rot on the practice squad - Sabretooth9
It would be something great for us if he develops into a quality top6 guy for us
I’m still holding out hope |

He’s gone, he was bad.
The new one is really bad too. It took one draft and signing Eakin, Girgensons and letting Kahun and Larsson walk to figure it out.
Oh well. We have an Eichel trade to get ready for after this season If this guy doesn’t wake up and get a goalie

Or maybe the players he acquired just sucked?
To me it proves what a horrible GM he was and why he's unemployed. 7/9 signed for under $1.5m this year. He overpaid in terms of cap space and assets for all of them - jcragcrumple
You’re reaching way too far
And at this point, who cares anyways?
Botts is gone- time to move on
And a HUGE part of what players are signing for now is bc of Covid economics
Ignoring that (like you are) is moronic |

Exactly. At the time of the trades. They made sense.
Colin Miller went from good analytics on Vegas and a good playoffs as a top 4 d ..... to literally sucking for first half of the season.
Something has got to give

I'm trying to reach the Botterill apologists who still populate this board. All of his FAs are now signed and for very little money.
Many here -including you- wanted that clown back for a 4th year. It's good that he's gone so we didn't end up with Bjugstad |

Common sense says that he paid an entire year's worth of draft capital for a bunch of scrubs and unnecessary parts who didn't make a lick of difference because he refused to address the center position and overpopulated the blue line to the point where Brandon Montour - who he paid a 1st for - was playing 4LW.
Sorry for the run-on sentence |

The guy we have now is worse. Maybe he gets better but he had a ridiculously awful offseason unless you wanna give him credit for Taylor Hall liking Ralph Krueger
In fact, if Botterill was fired a year earlier we don’t have Taylor Hall today |

NO ONE has been talking about Botts being a good GM
You brought him up outta nowhere
And i didn’t “want” him back
I’d have been “ok” with him coming back
Big difference
Just bc i defend against the dumb sh!t u say doesn’t mean that i was a big Botts fan |

Oh, buddy. All I heard was how this off-season was when he was really gonna show us how good he is. All of his pending UFAs were gone so he was really gonna make a splash. As if he wasn't going to just re-sign Vesey, trade for Bjugstad and call it a day. Gerbe (God rest his soul) said they had a THREE YEAR DEAL for Simmonds on the table.
The guy was garbage town and you still won't admit it |

I want to clarify that I supported Botts’ long term vision. I didn’t necessarily agree with his short term moves apart from Mojo which I thought was a smart FA signing.
I agreed with his first year here and not making any big FA signings and playing the “let’s see what we have approach” and when your biggest free agent signing in Benoit Pouliot, and you don’t trade the first round pick to “win now”, I believe he should get absolute credit for securing Dahlin.
I thought it was a smart move to not gamble several assets to compete after the 10 game winning streak in 2018 and keep the first rounder (may be bias involved as I was a man against the world that year as the tank commander). Dylan Cozens panning out is better then a first round playoff exit in my opinion.
Joker trade was solid, Skinner trade was great (contract he should have done better).
Vesey, Simmonds, Frolik were dumb moves.
Scandella and Pominville allowed us to get out of Ennis’ contract and ensuing buyout. (Should have gotten more for Scandella when we moved him though).
Mittelstadt hurts.
ROR trade has sucked so far but Johnson has looked like a first rounder lately, Tage still has an opportunity to be a top 6 FWD, plus the cap space we used for Hall in a sense (or Skinner if you want to look at it that way).

There's a lot to unpack here. First of all:
The year of Pouliot he traded a 3rd for Beaulieu and a 3rd for Pominville - they patience myth of Botterill exemplified.
And he did trade a 1st for Montour |
