Wait so utilizing Risto right isn’t on Risto it’s on the coach?
But yes please tell me how I am wrong with Skinners utilization. - Stripes77
Well, until the last few years they had no one else to do what he does. Maybe Dahlin is wise to the game and can play against top talent now, maybe Joker can, I doubt Joker can and that is why I look forward to fans and their reaction if and when Risto is traded.
Now, Skinner is another story he was on the 2nd line last year and was not getting it done as I stated in my memorable post that set off the sh*t show. That did not sit well and I was fine with Skinner until then, I was not happy with his contract but expected him to put the puck in the net again and make a difference but he wasn't as I so eloquently stated. He was expected to give the Sabres a 2nd line, teams need a 2nd line but he couldn't get it done, then he moved to the 3rd line and couldn't get it done. Ralph didn't utilize him ion the 1st line, that is not his destined position, utilizing him on the 2nd line is fine to make this team better but he couldn't do. So, now this season he is now on the 4th line as of yesterday because I guess he is either dumb, selfish or lazy for not being able to play the system and philosophy like everyone else. |

Lightning utilizing $15m in LTIR to offset their cap overage.
That's 18% over the cap for those keeping track at home.
But the NHL is poor

Skinner was the Sabres third highest goal scorers 5 on 5 playing with scrubs. Only Eichel and Reinhart beat him.
He even beat out Oloffson.
He did shoot a career low shooting percentage, however the fact that he still generated as many shots as he did shows he’s not lazy. He also played 2 mins less per game than the previous year. But you’ll think you’re right. |

So you agree, Kreuger hates Skinner and is not only not setting him up for success but also seems to be sabotaging him as a player? - 3rd GM's the charm

Listening to anything Bettman says is a waste of time
That’s on you
Also, teams are in fact losing $$$
And that’s an issue whether owners are rich or not |

Assuming his figure is accurate, which i don't, that's $30m per team, partially offset by salary deferrals, ad tarps in the lower bowls, decreased travel costs and helmet sponsors. At the end of the day, I bet it's $10-15 per team at the very highest end.
All of these owners would see a handsome profit which would more than offset that if they sold, but none are in such dire straits as to do so. It's all a PR move |

Dude, the math is pretty easy. They make the big chunk of their money by ticket sales. There isn't a giant national tv contract holding them up. No amount of ad tarps or advertising on jerseys is going to come close to making up for no ticket sales.

It's more than that. A lot more.
Look, it's not "for the fans". It's because they know if they're the only major sports league to not be able to figure it out, they will kill their brand. That being said, they're still losing a lot of money by any standard. Criticizing them for saying so is nothing more than pure envy. |

Goaltending lost us many more games than Skinner did
And it’s not even close
Also.... bringing up Skinner in this regard makes
ZERO SENSE
We are stuck with him
But we aren’t stuck with an Ullmark/Hutton combo
That potentially can be improved - jdfitz77
I’m not debating who cost the team more losses because it’s a team game. I will say if a guy is signed for 9 mil a year and he isn’t producing offensively and refuses to buy into the coaches system period, that is an issue that won’t help win games. Whatever is going on between the coach and Skinner has to be settled as a priority as this went on last year and it’s possible it will continue into this year. You say they are stuck with Skinner but I would think that if this doesn’t get settled either Skinner or the coach will be gone. If it’s the coach I can’t help but feel bad for whomever comes in next. |

This is where stuff gets silly. He didn't "announce" it. It was part of a conversation. I think we all just saw the headline. The other leagues said the same things as part of conversations - I don't think they are weak.

WE ARE STUCK WITH SKINNER
That’s why i don’t bring it up- it’s pointless

that’s why i bring it up

Very true. Most NHL teams will struggle without ticket/concessions revenue. Only a couple of teams have a major TV deal |

If the coach goes it will be a relief.
Let’s see what they’ve done wrong:
Continues to play Risto 23 mins a night
Continued to play a goalie who couldn’t see
Put his former 40 goal scorer on a line with scrubs and expects him to continue to produce oh and turn into this stellar two way player something he’s never been in his 10 year career.
Played with so many different d pairings and kept one of the better ones in the press box.
I mean none of this shows he’s a good coach. Last year the roster sucked so I kinda understood. But when you have more than one line and you’re still screwing up your second highest paid player something isn’t right. |

Playing Skinner with Cozens could be a big matchup advantage for us
You’re much too quick to say that’s “screwing up”
And it also won’t be the “4th line” as you’ve said
They’ll get icetime |
