If people hated that the LOG line got 15 min a night, and thought that was going away with losing Larsson and getting Staal, I have a feeling were going to see way too much of this Rieder and Eakin line
the taxi squad doesn't count against the cap, so if you're 21st, 22nd, and 23rd players are on the taxi squad, the cap-hit for that game is only the 20 players dressed, if i red it correctly - Michael Pachla
I read the article, and he worded it poorly and didn't get into enough detail.
Reference this below first:
A team has to carry at least 4 players on the taxi squad, of which is 1 goalie, assuming the team doesn't already have 3 goalies in the NHL roster.
They also have to complete player recalls from the taxi squad by 5PM on game days.
The players count against a team's cap from this respect: Let's say they move Cody Eakin to the taxi squad. He'd have to clear waivers, and if he does, only around $1M of his $2M deal would be saved against the cap, as that's the rule when waiving players or sending them to the AHL.
Mirtle's full cap savings idea only works if a team only has the bare minimum of 20 players on their NHL roster for each game, and that is a bit of a scary proposition when you have to have recalls done by 5PM of a game day.
Interesting if Quinn makes the team. I mean, he really has no where else to go correct? OHL not playing until mid Feb I believe, he’s not eligible for AHL correct? Maybe just play him the league min and send him to OHL when it starts?
So I have a low financial IQ because I'm acknowledging that more cap space > less cap space.
That's honestly quite a poopbird comment and unnecessarily antagonistic in addition to being wrong - jcragcrumple
What he’s saying is:
Put Girgs on LTIR, and u have to room for Sheahan
Thus negating your point about the overages keeping us from having Sheahan on the roster
right...we're just trying to figure out the cap implications and how the taxi squad effects the roster and daily cap calculations...the article states that proper use of the taxi squad, which doesn't count against the cap, could save a team a few million dollars...the sabres should be all over that considering the overage from last year and the potential overage this year - Michael Pachla

He is allowed to play in the AHL this year due to what's going on.

I asked this earlier
Apparently there’s a rule saying Quinn (& others in his situation) can play in the AHL until the CHL starts
I’m assuming they would then have to go to the CHL or NHL

Worst part is at least the LOG line was dominant defensively.
Reider and Eakin give up chances as often as Lisa Ann gives up the back door

Honestly, I wasn't even referring to just the Sabres.
There's been enough time and enough precedent in this league to show that the hard cap isn't so airtight, and the good teams find ways use that to their advantage. Tampa is just the latest example this year. I want the Sabres to be one of those smart and savvy teams.

We have assigned the following players to our taxi squad:
🔹 Forwards Rasmus Asplund and Casey Mittelstadt
🔹 Defensemen William Borgen and Brandon Davidson
🔹 Goaltender Jonas Johansson

That's just not true and overly simplified. - kingcong39
The explanation is indeed oversimplified.
What is not oversimplified is the fact that a smart and savvy team can use the taxi squad to a significant advantage. I say good for them. Use every competitive edge you can get. I just wish the Sabres were that savvy.
Ill be honest with you guys i know mitts iz not the stud we hoped. But man putting him in a taxi squad where he cant play i dont think its a good decision. Put him in rochester at least so he can develop smh

or put him with skinner and cozens and put lazar on the taxi squad

Lost in all of this conversation is the fact that now the league has a taxi squad, we no longer have the opportunity to see a zamboni driver on the wrong side of 40 beat the Toronto Maple Leafs in a regular season game.

Ahh ok the message said blackwood and not wedge which had me confused because blackwood is definitely a starter in the NHL and wedge well I wouldn't say is back up quality
if okposo was going to take that spot on the reo line, makes more sense to play asplund with them so cozens can develop synergy with lazar - homiedclown
I agree with you on Ralph putting Cozens on that line instead of with Skinner, but Okposo is definitely playing with Rieder and Eakin when he's healthy.
