I can’t believe they will start the year with Skinner on the 4rh and play Rieder with Cozens over Skinner. Basically making 2 checking lines vs a 3rd scoring line. What a joke

You can't play Cozens with Skinner because Skinner doesn't play defense, yet let's play him with the center that is HORRIBLE defensively
I agree with you on Ralph putting Cozens on that line instead of with Skinner, but Okposo is definitely playing with Rieder and Eakin when he's healthy. - kingcong39
but then why put your best prospect, who you need to produce this season, on a line practicing with guys you are not going to play him with
That's just not true and overly simplified. - kingcong39
correct...my bad...i red it wrong...the savings comes from the difference between their nhl and ahl salaries if they're on a two-way deal...that's why the players on buffalo's taxi squad are on two-way deals...
thanks for helping this non-capologist figure it out
nice...need to get to red rocks for a show...maybe this year after i get vaccinated

I read the article, and he worded it poorly and didn't get into enough detail.
Reference this below first:
A team has to carry at least 4 players on the taxi squad, of which is 1 goalie, assuming the team doesn't already have 3 goalies in the NHL roster.
They also have to complete player recalls from the taxi squad by 5PM on game days.
The players count against a team's cap from this respect: Let's say they move Cody Eakin to the taxi squad. He'd have to clear waivers, and if he does, only around $1M of his $2M deal would be saved against the cap, as that's the rule when waiving players or sending them to the AHL.
Mirtle's full cap savings idea only works if a team only has the bare minimum of 20 players on their NHL roster for each game, and that is a bit of a scary proposition when you have to have recalls done by 5PM of a game day. - kingcong39
Exactly.
The $3m Cap Savings quoted in The Athletic article is achieved by carrying a minimum 20 player roster every day, rather than the normal 23 with healthy scratches on game day. It assumes the Cap Hit of those players 21, 22 and 23 are $1,000,000 or more. In the event the Cap Hit for a player is more; then the max savings is limited to the $1,045,000 as per the CBA for players sent down.
In the event of an injury for a team carrying on 20 the roster, the team plays that game with only 19 players as normal...however, then the next day that player is placed on IR and a callup from the Taxi squad is used...thereby maintaining a daily roster of 20 players and continuing the assumed $1,000,000 Cap Hit.

Thinking about seeing Jimmy Buffett there the week of Labor Day.
If memory serves me, he’s playing Tuesday and Wednesday of that week.
