If anyone is interested, this is the result of poor critical thinking.

So on the 2 things you point out:

1: cost to acquire:
-I don’t think it will be top10picks
-Won’t even be 1 top10 pick, as i think he’s the missing piece that gets us into the playoffs
-Also, what about what we could likely LOSE if we don’t acquire him (or another really good goalie)?
Bc if we miss the playoffs again, then say bye to Hall & maybe to Eichel as well

2: how much longer will he be good for?
-he’s signed this year & next, at a very reasonable 4.5mil per- and I’m confident he’ll remain a top10 goalie for that period
-we won’t NEED to have him be our goalie for the next 10years, bc we have UPL coming

In summation....
Here’s what acquiring Kuemper gets us imo:
1- playoffs, which keeps Jack happy & potentially convinces Hall to stay
2- a great bridge to our goalie of the future
3- All for the likely cost of something like a 1st and a decent prospect (Samuelsson?)
4- that actually a LOW COST to get to the playoffs & keep Jack (& maybe Hall), imo

He is good but he’s not worth losing assets for especially the ones I’m sure they are after. If the price was reasonable and if he was or is available this would be done by now with some team. Obviously there is some reason he’s still in a yotes shirt. Over rated for the asking price is only one possibility or he isn’t available. I’ll put my money on Ullmark and Hutton and hope for a tad more scoring.
Speaking of small sample sizes UPL hasn’t even played a NHL game yet and you have him penciled in for 10 years of solid goaltending. How about yourself would you trade Eichel if he doesn’t score in the next couple of games.

I think he would make a difference over the course of a season, just not sold that our playoff hopes would rise and fall over that difference. Agreed, that cost to acquire seems like more to me than the juice we'll get out of it. I get why you like him though.

I think some posters might be overlooking the ",outside" view of the Sabres, when it comes to buying out hutton.

Buffalo already has a stigma attached. 9 years worth.

Disregarding a respected veteran like Hutton probably is taken into consideration when looking to replace him.

If I remember Correctly, hutton took less to play for buffalo as a ufa? Maybe we offered 3 instead of 2 years.

If we acquire PLD I have a hard time not seeing Reinhart as the main piece going the other way.

Columbus needs forwards.

We can’t pay PLD in two years + Reinhart + Hall etc.

And I’m not moving Cozens because he’s going to be really good, and really cheap for a few years
