I heard that DeAngelo's buyout is only 1/3rd of his $4.8m, so $1.6m if they did that during the offseason...~$800k per for 2 years. Rags have $3.8 cap space with him on the Taxi Squad now or in AHL...so, I could see them retaining him untll the offseason rather than taking on another bad contract for longer & more costly.

You have to buyout DeAngelo if you trade for him to optimize the cap savings.

That makes the length of DeAngelo's cap hit the same as Okposo.

Okposo:
- $6M per this season and the next 2

DeAngelo:
- $3.725M cap hit this season ($1.075 saved due to being waived)
- $383,333 cap hit for the 21-22 season if he's bought out after this season
- $883,333 cap hit for the 22-23 season

Cap Savings:
- 20-21 $2.275M
- 21-22 $5.617M
- 22-23 $5.117M

With such a clear cap savings, why would the Rangers make that trade when they can just do the same thing the Sabres would do without trading DeAngelo?
