Sure, but you still have to find a LB with Milano's skill set and Collins from Tulsa and Bolton can fill that roll. AJ had a good second half, but he still isn't a great cover LB
- Buff36

Klein did progress nicely as the season went along after an awful start. However, I would never trust him as my starter for 16 games, nor should the Bills. Milano is head and shoulders better than he is. If Milano doesn't come back, they had better seek help from elsewhere.

Well unless something changes, the Bill's aren't going 14mill a year for Milano. So there should be some attractive LB's at 30 for Buffalo, Collins and Bolton could fill Milano's skill set and AJ could help with easing them into the lineup.

It did not. Olofsson shot it right into Varlamov's pad when he had an open net.

was that not a sweet play created by skinner and a great feed by jack?...

you're missing the point by arguing that it hit the pad and not the glove

If that kid had any puck luck he would have 12 goals already. Most have hit 10 goalposts this year already.

Well the Cap floor was reset to 180mill by the NFL today. Good news for the Bill's, teams were told that this might not be the final number and could still go up a little more after financial's for the 2020 season are looked at.

39 is gonna die on "olofsson's not good island"

Let me prove you wrong posts. Constantly

Skimmer has 1 point, but olofsson's 11 points do not count because he hit the pads and not the glove 🤔

i don't understand the derision thrown olofsson's way...i get that he's more comfortable scoring on the powerplay, but to imply he's completely useless 5v5 is incorrect, especially when you consider he has some defensive acumen and enough speed to play a decent 200' game...and that shot?...i don't know what people are looking at but it's a bullet...

all that said, that post i made wasn't about him...it was about replying to a post that said eichel has played his worst hockey with skinner on his left wing

With Cozens coming back I would go right back to Skinner Eichel Rhino they were good together Hall Staal Cozens is a solid 2nd line, even though I would ask Staal to see if he was comfortable playing RW, he has definitely lost a step and Cozens could get in on the forecheck quicker.

Wennberg is dogsh¡t, always has been. 7 points in 14 games isn't exactly great. And he's shooting 22.2% on top of it for a career 8% shooter. He had one solid season 4 years ago in which he scored 11 EV goals. Give me a (frank)ing break on him. Eakin sucks, Wennberg sucks too, just less, but that's not saying much. Wennberg with Okposo would suck real bad too.

Verhaeghe's having a very good season, but he's also playing about twice as much as he was last year, and shooting north of 23%.

Neither will hold up over the course of even just 56 games. Especially Wennberg who has many seasons of sucking badly under his belt.

- Wetbandit1

All of Wennberg's 7 points are at even strength. He has 3 more points at even strength then any Sabre.

Verhaeghe's 11 even strength points are 11th overall in the entire NHL at a cap hit of $1M for this season AND next. We would be doing cartwheels if the Sabres had made that kind of value, impact signing.

couldn't agree more...

skinner - jack - skunk
hall - staal - cozens
reider - eakin - okposo
olofsson - lazar - sheahan

personally, i think they need to get asplund in there somehow...he brings energy, defensive responsibility and pk acumen...okposo or eakin could take a seat and it shouldn't bother anybody...

but we all know it won't happen

My point about Olofsson is that he's as much of a problem at even strength as everyone else is on the team. That's it.

Agree, I am almost to the point were I want to see a bunch of the youngins playing, can't be any worse than the Sh!t show on ice that we have been watching. And Borgen back to the taxi squad better be a paper move, cause he was one of the better players on the ice against the Islanders.

so...while looking up borgen's numbers on natural stattrick i noticed risto and mccabe...

they lead every buffalo defenseman in nearly every category (save for SF% where davidson and borgen top the list having played 1 and 2 games, respectively) while having the least percentage of offensive starts...

based upon analytics so far this season, would the d really better without one or both of them?

i was just thinking about it...

this group is carrying a huge weight right now and they're struggling underneath it...ralph, as many coaches before him throughout the league, is stout in his belief that vets will find a way out of it because they have experience...

however, none in this forward group, save for jack, has shown the propensity to lift that kind of weight...and on defense, risto and mccabe are the only two that haven't buckled yet...

an influx of fresh blood, like borgen and asplund who both offered up a ton of unbridled energy along with competent play against a very difficult nyi team to play against, should be considered part of the remedy...

imho, of course

McCabe is a FA at the end of the season anyways, I think Dahlin, Samuelsson, Johnson are your future on the left side anyways with Bryson making a push

I wonder how much of their focus on bringing in veteran role players was the result of what Eichel had intimated was needed this past offseason?

samuelsson and bryson are at least a year away...johnson maybe two...

the big thing with mccabe is his injury history, which has crept into the equation the last few years

The Sabres are far from the only team that takes the safe approach when it comes to choosing which players play and how many minutes a player gets.

An example is Irwin seeing the ice before Borgen.

Probably had a lot to do with it, but doesn't seem to be having the affect we were all hoping for.

don't know...but hall and staal looked like real good additions this off season...players like okposo, eakin, irwin and even to an extent miller, are the vets i'm talking about right now...

i think borgen earned another look and i don't think they'd be losing anything if they sat okposo for asplund

The future, but if the team keeps nose diving I would have no problem moving that time-line up, other then Johnson.

I don't mind the veteran approach, but at least target veterans that just don't play a specific role, but play it well.

More importantly, they need to much more quickly identify players that should not be playing and just bite the bullet and sit them (hello Okposo).
