RoR has a 7.5m cap hit. That year, he was paid a 7.5m bonus and a 1m salary. The idea that it was some kind of poison pill is massively exaggerated. It's a 1m difference.

Now, the idea that his lock-out and buy-out proof contract matters holds much more water. No idea why GMTM felt the need to go to such extremes.

You are kinda missing the point I think. Good GMs are given leashes, but they still have to answer to their boss, the owners. The owners will always want to see the bottom line, even if some are fine going red for a little bit. 7.5 for one guys is a tough pill to swallow when he hasn't played one second for your team and just got done saying he lost his love for the game (with the obvious implication that he would get it back somewhere else, yes, but that was defiantly used against Buf). The timing of it 100% suggests he was instructed to get the best return without paying the salary. The deal was made so late before the bonus was due.
