Yes and the rest of the team is so facken good. I don’t mind blaming goalies myself but this defensive system that allows breakaways continuously and guys coughing up the puck at record levels is the worst I’ve seen.
Case closed.

Adam Benini said the coach should have been fired two games ago. Can you or anyone explain what his system is? I can't figure it out. All I see is shoot it in and lose the wall battles.
- sippyd

You are not wrong.

I am no expert on hockey systems, but I can describe what I see, maybe you see it too.
Someone else asked the same question you did the other day, in essence I described it this way:
(Perhaps others want to jump in)
- it is ultra conservative in that the intent is for players to think D 1st and play a style in which they all try to maintain position "below the puck", "don't cheat"...which means they position themselves between the puck and their own net..no one stays high to try to gain an advantage for a rush up ice on a breakaway of sorts
- positioning is key, as a 5 man defensive unit to block passing lanes, force the play to the outside
- Dmen are taught to make quick passes up ice as soon as they gain the puck in the D-zone, to Forwards who then carry the puck through the neutral zone.
- they rely relatively heavily on dump and chase, with board play just like you said.
- Dmen, until the last 4 - 5 games stayed at the blue line, didn't really attack down low with the puck...stay up high, back out quickly upon transition of puck possession to the opponent ( i.e. "stay below the puck" through the neutral zone and defensive zone)
- Normally, the have 1 checker in the offensive zone pressure the luck carrier, while the other 4 retreat..to stay below the puck.
- offensively, they come in relatively flat, look to put poops on net and scramble for possession to shoot on net again.
- there isn't much passing, except back to the Dmen on the point, who then try to shoot on net once again...little creativity with passes into the slot, nor across the slot to the other side

I will say, the the last several games I did notice several Dmen carrying the puck deeper into the O-zone...Btyson, Dahlin, Montour and Borgen all carried it more than earlier in the season...so, maybe, just maybe we see more of it....since that is what we have more of...mobile, puck movers.

Hope that helps.
There are others more knowledgeable on systems and formations...perhaps they care to elaborate.
