Few things here:

The Sabres aren't going to bring in some outsider...we know this already

Matt Ellis was the ultimate pro. He was the 4th line grinder and the 1st line AHLer.

He is respected

He is already traveling with the team and working with the taxi squad guys daily

He also knows what it is like to be a hockey player and have systems stifle players games.

If anything he would lighten the mood in the locker room and let the boys just play.

I am not saying it's ideal, but it's better than keeping Ralph for the next 18 months

If the staff is staying, and money is a concern...why not just elevate Smith as Interim HC?

I'm not advocating it as the D hasn't been great since he got here, so unless Ralph is Ccoaching the D too and Smith is a passenger...I'm not sold on him...at least he has NHL coaching experience.

Dudes, all kidding aside, I’m not counting on coaching change until off season. Agree there are a million reasons to do it now, but think they’ll wait til off season. Plus maybe Torts will be available. Eichel and Reinhart need to go as they are guilty by association and were brought in to make a difference. They haven’t. I’m tired of Eichel’s woe is me body language and thinking he is god’s gift to hockey when he actually scores. Dahlin has been a major disappointment. Totally unworthy of the sausage sucking from posters on here for the last 3 years. Play him at center or trade him. I despise the lack of identity of this team. They have no moxie. No jam. I can’t go for that, no can do.

Interim. But only if you're truly convinced that any free agent coach out there is not right for this team.

It's clear a new philosophy is needed. This team is a soft, perimeter, point shot team. No wonder they lose all the time.

My only hope is that they didn't want to repeat the mistake of the Panthers when they fired Gallant and made him get his own taxi at the arena in Raleigh.

Well, supposedly the Panthers had a car service arranged to come get him, but GG told them to shove it and went out and hailed a cab... idk if that’s actually true or not, but it’s a good story. Idk what led to Vegas letting Gallant go, but he was butting heads with FL management over the changes that were made after their division win/first round exit. FL players loved him, as far as I know.
