Irrelevant as he doesn’t have to be great defensively if he’s providing tons offensively, he just has to be adequate and out score his defensive issues. I had a discussion with Ray Ferraro one time on a flight about this nonsense that every player has to be all-world in every situation…it’s garbage. - Pacificgem
I think I have watched 8 periods so far this year and he has probably been the cause of 10 goals for the other team. He has also had assists on maybe 7 or 8 for Canucks so I would say that is pretty relevant.
In years past I think he outscored his problems, but I think he is worse this year.

You'd think the fact that we wouldn't put an NTC/NMC on this year's contract would have made them aware. - Retinalz
Really? All I heard was JTM was looking forward to spending his career in VAN.

Perhaps Miller still wants to be traded and didnt insist on it.

He has 8 points in 7 games and he’s -1. To me it’s more of the same with him. Personally I take the offence with him all day long, but that’s just me. |

I remember Kesler saying that when the rumors started that he had requested a trade.

Maybe, trying to facilitate a move to his desired team(s), gives VAN ample time to put something together.

He’s playing on the contract he signed with Tampa Bay.
Unless you mean the Canucks had the option as to whether or not they honour his NTC protection or not, which they didn’t.
“CLAUSE DETAILS: Miller was traded on June 22, 2019, prior to his Modified NTC coming into effect, giving Vancouver the option of voiding clause. CapFriendly has confirmed that Vancouver did not honor his trade clause.
CLAUSE SOURCE: CapFriendly” - Pacificgem
Pretty sure I read somewhere they had the option to start the NTC this year after he signed his contract, but decided not to. |

Most teams opt out of it, for obvious reasons. |

Depends on what you mean by rebuild. If you're keeping Petey and Hughes, by the time you're hoping to be competing, Demko will still be in his prime with the team you trade him to.
Personally I think you keep him and just be content with the fact that you have your G position covered for many years. - NorthNuck
I think if you're going full rebuild, you trade Demko (assuming there is a good return). Demko is good enough to steal you games, and if the point is to bottom out, you need a goalie that's not going to stand in the way. |

Sometimes teams will add an NTC to the final year of current contract(Like benning did with Sutter) when extending. The Canucks did not/would not do that. |
