He wasn't the most talented player but the guy had a lot of heart. Many times called the best "pound-for-pound" fighter in the league. He certainly wasn't a heavy-weight and picked his spots but the team sorely misses a guy like him.
Allvin could have done something about it, but instead of trading the player, he signed him long-term.
People will crap on Bo for being a poor leader, but at least he is putting points up and contributing in a positive way. to me he is leading by example.. - stefano76
FA mentioned the Canucks had a culture issue when he hired Rutherford.
Bieksa also mentions "the culture and that’s what I was most proud of in my tenure with the Canucks"
This is nothing new, it's just nobody has been able to do anything about it. To me it starts with the leadership in the room or lack thereof. - VanHockeyGuy
I mean, the while city has a culture issue when it comes to the canucks. It's a losing one ... for 50+ years.
People will complain we need a guy with balls and then turn around and curse Bieksa, who had them in spades, because he didn't fight anyone and everyone...they want it both ways. He was a good player for the Canucks!

Dude, Rick Rypien was the best pound for pound fighter the league has ever seen. Bieksa was tough no doubt when he was engaged.

LOL….no disrespect to Ryper but not a chance! Tie Domi was 5’9” tall and fought everyone. Stan Jonathan was also extremely tough for a guy that was 5’8” tall in an era when the league was FULL of goons.

He wasn't best pound for pound of all time but he was in that minority class of fighters you mention.
Again, agree, if we’re talking about all-time history. Bieksa was tough for his size in his era, but not “all-time”. Mel Bridgman was also very tough and he was a 1st overall pick. Rick Tocchet, PJ Stock, Jordan Tootoo and Wendal Clark were also extremely tough for their size.
Not even close... and a big part of his fighting success was surprising his opponent by lunging and closing the gap with first strike. I understand this very well as it was one of the reasons I laid out so many bigger and older guys when I was a teen. I used my extremely quick round house for that.

Clarke was my favorite player in his prime. Amazing hockey player and few were tougher. Most memorable Clark fight was with Mcsorely. They more or less did a lap around the rink never letting up on the big blows the entire time...
Yes indeed. I was very impressed with the special about him in preseason. I have lots of respect for him even though he can be goofy as hell sometimes.
