Agreed.
I see the big problem being, where the fuck do you start?
The team badly needs to move players out, some of whom may need an asset attached to them, some may need salary retention or a bad contract attached to them, while others are not an upgrade to what other teams already have.
Theanagement needs to be of the mindset of, take what you can get, when you can get it, instead of overvalued the teams players, like many of the fans tend to do. - Reubenkincade
Bingo
Who cares if you "lose" a trade, the goal should be to move out what you can and turnover as much of the roster as you can while ideally freeing up whatever cap space and acquiring whatever picks/prospects you can. If no one wants OEL/Myers/Pearson/Boeser then start with the guys teams do want. |

If Mike Gillis was an idiot, the most successful GM in the organizations history, then every GM in Canucks history is an idiot.
That said, I understand Gillis was crappy at important parts of the GM job and he inherited the core, but, if he’s an idiot then I don’t know what you’d call Benning?
Truth be told, the current management group looks to have had some faiths the team could replicate the second half of last season. It’s abundantly clear that isn’t the case, changes need to be made. - Pacificgem
That pretty much summed it up with the moves they made off season. Plus the tweaks to add recently.
Next move is probably a coaching change before they sell players and tank.

Realistically I think if you trade Horvat, Miller Boeser and Myers for positive returns (yes, they can all net positive returns) You get back some C and D prospects and a 1st or two. Try and get Schenn to come back 1 year and roll hughes-schenn and OEL-Bear for another bad season. OEL is better to be bought out in 2024 or after. Keep Cap and weaponize for next off season by taking on 1 year deals to give contenders cap. we can start properly building towards a competitive team by 2026, MAYBE 2025 if some younger prospects develop and some lottery luck happens. - Retinalz
Congrats! You take the trophy again 🏆 🛀 🧂. Those players don’t have positive trade value. They suck and I’m pretty sure there is a salary cap. |

IMac wrote this morning that Canucks are currently one point behind last year's pace. That is the pace that got Green and Benning fired.
I thought they both should have been gone at the beginning of the year, but the media sure pushed for them to come back. |

Agreed.
The team is allowed 3 retained salaries, I would expect that they would have to, in order to move some of who you mentioned.
As much as I don't want to see retention, I really don't care, as long as they start cleaning house. |

Yup. Which was dumb but I think his argument was that the roster he has to work with is poop and this is about as good as it’ll get.
I think Bruce might agree right now lol |

I really don't know what Drance has said in about two years. I don't follow him at all so I can't answer that.

Losing trades is what got them into the mess in the first place isn't it?
Be very Canuck fan to want to do that again. |

Jim Benning wanted to fill the age gap, some were okay with that, others weren't, Rutherford/Allvin want to fill age gap, again some okay with it others are asking, we learnt from that mistake, how come you 30+year hockey people haven't.
Both these regimes had salary and other issues to deal with, but continued to add onto that problem with expensive free agent signings, signing and trading for fringe players using picks and or prospects.
I find zero difference between the old regime and the new regime, other than the names. |

I still think it truly sucks that Juolevi had those bad injuries. Kid had some real potential. - Retinalz

There were a ton of Canuck (and other) fans that said the oilers needed to lose a trade to get better back in the early 2010-15 days… |

I believe he disliked a couple expensive defensemen, but thought highly of some shiny players. |

I’d start with the most coveted players and get bidding wars going. That’s a very different approach from the losing trades the Canucks have made over the past decade.
Tell me how many trades (frank)ed this team where the Canucks were the ones selling compared to the ones where the Canucks were the ones trying to buy/target a specific player. |

I don’t listen or read enough of his stuff to comment with certainty but I always got the impression that he said this team is mediocre at best. |

Gillis: Bad trades, bad contracts, no prospects. Throws away draft picks.
Benning: Bad trades, bad contracts, no prospects. Throws away draft picks
Chipmunk: Bad trades, bad contracts, no significant prospects yet. Throws away draft picks.
I see one GM continuing to mess up what the last GM messed up.
It is like trying to figure out which STD is better to have, |

The team needs to increase the value of the players first. If they can't get what they want for them they need to re-sign them, until their value increases and then hope you can get what you want for them.
To hell with what other management groups and some fans think of your players, you must hold onto this trash, until you get what you want for them. |
