Sadly it looks like the cycle is containing. More picks/prospects being traded for other team's scraps and multiple insiders suggesting that they want NHL-ready players at C/D if they trade Horvat.

No one is trading good young NHL C/D, they're too valuable to both rebuilding teams and contenders because of their age and cheap cap hits. You're going to get stuck with Roslovic/Newhook/Peeke types, you're not getting a Byram or Lundell.

- Nucker101

Exactly.

This is why I would prefer the picks and maybe a reclamation project thrown in.
Not sure why people think other teams are going to throw 2, 3 good young players and a top prospect for these players, maybe you get 1 and a 1st either this year or next.
The other thing I get a good laugh at, is when fans think they just need to tweak this team, last like the did after the play-in thingy, then after the Boudreau bump from last season and then the 3 game heater, earlier this season.

Arturs Silovs is second in the AHL with 13 wins.

He's 21 years old.

The kid is running with this opportunity to be the full-time starter in the AHL.

10-1-0 over his last 11 starts.

Not shabby!
Sucking the hind tat on Wranglers goalie Dustin Wolf’s 18 wins. Also Wolf 2.18 gaa, and a .929 save % to Silovs 2.74 gaa, and .874 save %.
He’s got a ways to go to catch last years Goalie of the Year!

The average fans are complete (frank)ing morons. Also I’d prefer reclamation projects to picks as they have a higher probability of panning out. It’s elementary stats

Back then fans were spoiled & wanted more. The media just played them. The reality was an aging team loaded with NTC’s was left behind. That alone said we were 5yrs behind in rebuilding. No cup no prospects & no GM was going to toss lifelines. FA cans GMMG & began the milking of the fans. He built nothing just the Aquillin’s bank account. Takes no vision to make money in this market.

Slum lords to the end…

- Nighthawk

Funny part is:

Narrative: "Man Gillis has left this team ion a mess, the cupboards are empty because of all the picks he traded"

Also Narrative: "No need to rebuild, Benning trading picks to fill the age gap is fine because of what Gillis did"

And now you have to wonder if we're seeing the same scenario play out again, just replace MG's name with JB and replace JB's name with Allvin/JR.

I think the 6'4 goalie will be an NHL goalie, the midget in net, not so much.

that's true, but they usually also have lower ceilings. Jack Roslovic, Alex Newhook and Andrew Peeke are near locks to have long NHL careers.

I'd still take a late 1st over each of them, even if I draft 2 busts with those picks, I'd still be happy if I draft an actual impact player with 1 of my 3 picks, and if I miss with all 3 picks, I'm still in the same spot I'd be with those other 3 on my team, zero needle moving impact players but at least with the picks I have that chance to find a true core piece.

Valuing those 3 over picks is how you get stuck in no-man's land or in the Canucks case, continue to get stuck in no-man's land.

I'd love to know how many picks/prospects that have been traded for reclamation projects that teams were willing to move ended up turning into core players. And take those handful of players that turned out to be good and compare them to all the failed reclamation projects or the ones with meh results that didn't move the needle. I bet the hit rate will be lower than your odds of drafting a core player with a late 1st.

Expansion draft trades excluded because those rules forced teams to move players they otherwise wouldn't.

TL/JB weren’t given full autonomy & the mess was further worsened. The delay brought about a new type of mess. Now it’s JR/PA acting like a crisis Mgmt team unravelling some very serious problems. To date they haven’t made any significant impact on turning it around. Therefore under the microscope after a year+ of evaluating. The market is unique but not a real excuse. Something big has to happen & we all know it. We can only speculate but in this it’s painfully obvious some big balls are needed & Mgmt has to have spine & fortitude to do it.

What's really really really really gross is that Motte, Hamonic, Benn have been the only real "net" positive trades since basically Hansen for Rathbone and Burrows traded for Dahlen. Those really haven't panned out yet either. Before that in 2015 it was Bieska and Lack.

The absolute worst trading team over the past decade hands down. Remained the same for a reason.

I meant more like trading a pick/prospect for young age gap players. So examples of Vey/Clendening/Baertschi/Pedan type of deals that actually moved the needle.

I'd love for the Canucks to be the ones who trade a Sven for Andersson, but that's the exact opposite of what Don is suggesting.

Trading for 3rd liners and #5 dmen like Bear doesn't move the needle.

Well the sell off will surely improve odds of being a bottom team outliving this site and many of us.

Hopefully they draft all D with the traded picks and maybe finally get a top 4 RSD. Those traded cast off prospects can be packaged and traded for more picks.

Keep the cycle of bottom team going. It’s great to have a rebuild that will stand the test of time.

Nothing more overrated than those late 1st and 2nd round picks. They have value of course but as a main piece for trading a player it’s trash. We have a 20% shot at drafting a player than can play a few seasons on the 4th line! (frank) ya 🤮

Yeah, you're right. Lets keep spending to the cap with a poop team trading picks/prospects for 3rd liners and bottom pairing dmen instead.

Some of you guys deserve this team

I'll take my 5-10% odds of landing a core player over my 90% odds of a 3rd liner or #5 dman that you can find in free agency or trades every year

Your math is off.....again. Silovs is actually at .893.

Both are still much better than the .852 that Marky posted in the playoffs against the Oilers last year. Could've used a Goalie of the Year desperately while the Flames were getting their salads tossed in that series.

I'll still laugh at all the media clowns and the also the dumb fans back in like 2012 or 2013 who pushed the "this fanbase won't accept a rebuild" narrative.

This team has tried to make the playoffs every year and re-tool on the fly which is even harder than rebuilding successfully. And the results have sucked for the last 8 seasons and yet the fans still care. It's American fans that are in cities with NFL/MLB/NBA teams that dont give a poop about rebuilding hockey teams, not canadian hockey fans who are obsessed.

Might be the dumbest narrative I've seen that people actual buy into. Even John Shannon pushes that narrative until this day.

It's a cop out for an impatient dumb owner and anyone who truly believes it has their head in the ground.

Playoffs! There’s a concept, funny Canucks haven’t sniffed them since Marky and Tanev bolted for the mighty Flames. Good for you though correcting my math.
