wouldn't hold your breath. Nevermind EP, the odds of them even moving Hughes are remote.

We're all in here talking about rebuilds while management is trying to re-sign Horvat and Kuzmenko, the disconnect between what management is thinking and what some of you guys are suggesting is just worlds apart.

They're probably debating whether or not to sign guys currently in their late 20's and some of you guys want them to move guys in their early 20's

Back to reality talk, Schenn will be moved. Horvat I think they'll wait make their one big final offer soon and if he says no then they'll trade him for age gap players who can play right now.

Pretty much how it will play out.

Has been this year.

Aah yes & no. The warts were deeper than just in goal. The roster sucks or not close to playing & pulling in the same direction.

Scratch to top Line.... anyone else find this f'd up... I haven't been watching to comment.

Lekk is one of those players who's useless if he's not scoring so I get it, also he in WJC the 13th forward is dressed I believe so he wasn't scratched

I don't care what happens to Horvat either way, however I do hope he's made it clear to Rutherford he's not signing an extension with any team before the TDL. Horvat can pick whichever team he wants in the summer. Make the Canucks pay for this grossly mishandled fiasco. The fallout will be epic

He’s young & it was said 2-3yrs of development away. I’m wanting him to be more noticeable & show determination. Skating & speed & hustle & get his nose dirty.

I am hoping for a complete teardown and Pouty being moved by next TDL.
- Reubenkincade

Trading pouty is pure idiocy. Trading him for a mere 1st and a prospect like you suggested shows that you don't know value. EP is worth around 4 1sts if we do a tear down. Even then it isn't worth doing. EDM started theirs in like 2008, 2009? something like that and they still suck in 2023. TBL took a decade to be good, even after Stamkos and Hedman. It wasn't until they hit with Kucherov and Point and Vasilevsky , as well as getting lucky trading Drouin for Sergachev that they were able to take the next step. Cernak developing also helped. Take two of those hits away and are they a dominating force? probably not.

Tearing it down to the foundation doesn't work as well as you and some others make it sound. You keep EP and keep a proper top line, be bad this year and next and develop some more in the AHL and slowly bring up Podz, etc and start competing in year 3. I also say you keep Hughes and draft/trade for a younger version of Schenn. Hughes is elite, one of the top offensive D in the entire league and solid defending against the rush. His defensive woes are against a cycle game, and luckily Schenn makes up for that.

The best option IMO is Trade Horvat, trade Schenn, Trade Miller thats your positive vale. Trade Boeser for nothing, if we need to send an acquired asset, so be it. Use that cap space to help other teams lower theirs and get more assets that can plug holes at the NHL level for a season or two. Draft well and start competing in 2025 or 2026.

I said this to my buddy in Chicago last night and I'll repeat it here. Everyone knows it's the IIHF rules with IIHF Referees going into the tournament. Next time get your bribe money in on time and don't cheap out.

Wow. You’re going too far in your desire for a rebuild. Pouty is a player worth keeping. Surround him with strong team leadership and players willing to compete every shift and he will be the best player this franchise has ever had.
- bloatedmosquito

I don’t disagree with this, but why would he ever resign here? Outside of the extra contract year the Canucks can’t offer him anything that another team can’t. They certainly can’t offer any credible guarantee that they will be competitive any time soon.

Disallowed goal for goalie interference. It was a weak call.
The second goaltender interference call against the crybabies was legit.
Oh well, they would have lost 6-3 instead of 6-2.
Worst sportsmanship on the entire planet.

Drafting/developing requires vision & luck & the system. Abby is looking good for prospects to develop. Not enough picks & elite prospects. Some decent to good middle 6 or bottom pairing D. None quite fully ready.

Trade assets for 20-24yr olds & picks. More assets in than out is a start. Idc abut W’s & L’s. Next offseason buyouts & more trades.

Neither can the teams who can afford to pay him 10m. he also has 2 years to hit UFA, and the Canucks will Tkachuk him if he says he will not sign long term. EP will be a lifer here and we will be competitive during his 8 year contract, probably for most of it as well. But only if we make a few big trades now.

I'd argue that finding an impact(not Ethan Bear types) early 20's NHL roster player, especially at C/D who a team is willing to trade requires even more luck than hitting on a good C/D with a pick in the 1st round or early 2nd round.

Alex Newhook will only be traded if the Avs who know him better than any other team think that he's more of a role player talent and not an impact center.

Bowen Byram will not be traded because the Avs who know him better than any other team think that he'll be a top 4 dman for a long time

Your essentially banking on teams who've watched these players more closely than anyone else to be wrong in their assessments or your banking rare late bloomers

Exactly, trade our positive value assets in Horvat, Schenn, Miller (yes he has positive value since he produces), Kuzmenko only if he still insists on not signing until UFA. Boeser hopefully we can offload for futures like Patches (I thought he could get at least a 2nd, but not anymore, though I doubt he costs us to trade. He is still a legit top 6 guy). That gives us a little over 20m in cap space next season. Weaponize that by taking on a few bad contracts, use those contracts to plug the holes left by trades and suck for another year. Let assets develop and then look to start improving at the NHL level.

I think Horvat will get the trade management wants, and others will get the trades we want. Get a solid 20ish year old RHD and a 1st + with Horvat, get a bunch of picks with the rest. After picks have a # beside it, decide which ones can get us NHLers. Don't need to draft with every pick you get, but whenever a player is available at the draft, you can always get them with said picks.

We'll see.

The only young RHD with legit top 4 potential they'll get is a player who is currently a non-full time NHL'er and by all accounts they prefer NHL-ready players.

Or they'll get reclamation projects

I don't think he's captain material. Bruce even says that he's one of the quietest guys on the team, even on the ice.

But then again, I also think it's dumbs that most teams/fans always defer to their best player when naming a captain.

Good stuff for sure. On Byram idk cuz injury history doesn’t project well & hence a risk. His talent is undeniable.

Getting the assets back is predicated on teams going for cup runs. Not many fall into that category with the depth of prospects so comes down to adding picks. Biggest hurdle remains the flat cap & strain teams face.

All said it’s going to take some incredible luck & hard negotiations. Some assets can be nearly given away as in Boeser & Garland. We can live with that if cap is gained. It’s a sad world but that’s the reality.
