Good UFA class that could help Canucks remain competitive. Should look to clear cap space.

Why do that when they can remain in mediocrity.
- manvanfan

True, the illusion of competing is better than actually competing. At least according to FA and thus Management.

If we could trade Bo asap, and trade a few others it would certainly help our chances at Bedard.

Was listening to post game last night and the guys were talking about how the teams who currently have the cap space to take on the Horvat contract aren’t in a position to add a player (they suck), but as each day goes by contending teams (who aren’t in LTIR) are gaining cap space and Horvat’s cap his is decreasing. Basically next week (10 days or so) teams like Seattle could make a trade for Horvat (50% retained) without having to give up a player from their roster.

The 49ers are going to clean their clocks, might have been better to win but have GB get in for better draft position and avoid being embarrassed in the Super Wild Card. Gotta say though, I think this is it for Rodgers, how much more is this guy going to want to try and chase another Super Bowl in Green Bay when he's clearly not as good as Tom Brady and the Packers have no interest in trying to compete until he leaves?
- DariusKnight

What a bold prediction!

The Seahawks didn't do bad for a first year re-build team. No franchise QB, #5, 37 OA picks from Denver (plus their own). The future looks bright!

Buffalo has been having a solid season, and are only 4 points back of a playoff spot.
They have a ton of cap space.
Are they willing to make a move, or will they continue building?

Didn't we say that about the Canucks after Benning's first year and then after the play-in tournament? Sometimes just getting in and the experience isn't that great. Clearly the Seahawks have major holes in their run D and Geno isn't the long-term answer at QB (but he was better by FAR then Mr. Rock Star Russell Wilson).
- DariusKnight

I do think nucks had something going with that play-in tournament team. Bo played better then than he is now even, imho. He was fast drove a lot of plays and made everyone around him better. Signs were there he was more than he'd shown previously anyway. Of course bubble demko too.

Keeping Tanev for the QH factor alone & Toffoli instead of Holtby & Schmidt killed that momentum. Also harder to play the way they do now sitting around watching when you got a guy (Tanev) sacrificing life & limb out there. Would they have been good enough to go any further, maybe not. They got dominated by Vegas except on scoreboard and other factors (EP & TD regression) ... but they sure had a lot more chemistry and were funner to cheer for.

Buffalo has been best case since early season. Close to home so chance of re-sign and maybe getting a return that isn't strictly rental.

That's true but Van could take a bad contract back which would add a lot of teams.

Van should be taking contracts back like JP or Andreas Johansson early to see about chemistry with some other current member's. expiry RFA's so if they don't exactly work out, they can just not be qualified. Possibly re-upped on 1 year deals for cheap and possibly sold at the next TDL. (Max Domi every single year)

Agreed.
I don't see this team being close to a decent playoff team, any time soon, so this management idea of getting 25 and under type of players, in my view, is flawed, maybe 22 and younger.
The teams best defense prospect is a kid who got drafted in the 3rd round, this past draft, which means he is about 3 years away, if he makes it.
The team really needs to change the direction of their thoughts on what they are trying to acquire.
Without getting good draft picks, and getting main pieces through the draft, this team will be spinning its wheels, for another decade.

That was part of the discussion. It was Bic Nizzar talking, and he just thought Buffalo was on the fence and not ready to commit to trading assets and signing Bo. He said in the next ten days there would be a handful of teams entering the mix. I’m sure Allvin has them all on the phone regularly with updated talks.

I'd say most teams would not be looking at him as a rental though.

I think one of the reasons for the lack in activity is they're really not sure what the plan is. Waiting for things to happen in the marketplace is a big IF, standing pat is the current plan. Maybe we see something in the summer.

I think the sentiment was that the true contenders, who would be most interested, have little in the way of “bad contracts”, AND if they see themselves as cup hopefuls they will want to avoid losing an existing (good) player from their roster.

They would have all summer to sort out a cap situation for the following year, but for this years playoffs most teams don’t like to disrupt their mix too much.

I think they need to act like they haven't been in a rebuild or retool the last 8 years. They need to draw line in the sand this TDL and say rebuild starts now. Go full Coyotes and trade everything worth a damn and stock picks ... and do that for like 2-3 years.

Unfortunately I don't see it in this market or with this management. It would take ignoring fan base, owners, sponsors, half empty buildings. Like JR would literally have to accept he may be passed away before the team is any good.

Half the current playoffs teams Bo wouldn't be a clear upgrade at 2lc for them.

It's also teams that will get guys back off LTIR before seasons end that they will still need room for.

Mostly depends on what the Canucks are still willing to take back. They have never intentionally taken back a bad contract in a trade.

I would say you probably overrate Bo then.

Carolina, New Jersey, Minnesota, LA, Seattle, Calgary, Edmonton (if they don't split up mcDavid and Drais), Colorado (technically in playoffs but not)
