I said he was a POS, never said he wasn't a good player.

The rules back then weren't enforced like they are now, so it is a bit difficult to compare the 2 era's.

Fair point. But look at teams who win Cups, they tend to have some dbags who can play pretty well.


Bolts have Kucherov who is dirty as (frank), Bruins with Marchand, Hawks/Kings had plenty of dbags. Blues bullied their way to a cup.

They need to add a 1st and 2nd. Peterson is 5m for 2 more years after this. That is a 1st + to dump. Grans for Demko isn't far off, but still not enough.

From personnel experience playing team sports, if your teammate getting punched and you grab the guy doing the punching, pretty damn good chance you are the next guy to get punched. So you know if you aren't a fighter and don't want to fight maybe don't face wash the guy who is already throwing punches.

But yeah takes numbers, throw some hits.

Nowhere did I suggest this so I think you misinterpreted my post since I didn't specify an exact hypothetical situation. I was assuming we were talking about standing up for a teammate after a big hit or in a scrum near the goalie after a whistle.

If your teammate is getting punched, he's either in a fight or just been sucker punched like Garland did so obviously if it's the latter you defend your teammate and throw some punches yourself. And again, if the entire team has a pack mentality, it won't turn into a one-on-one fight in that scenario, it'll turn into a scrum/brawl and eventually the most willing fighter on your side will likely step in to actually fight one-on-one if the guy who threw the sucker punch is a known fighter.

Explain then how you stand up for a teammate getting punched in the face? Do you face wash the guy? Can't fight because it's not about fighting. How do you do that? Stern stare?

Plus it's more to send the message to other teams that you aren't going to take being sucker punched without retaliation. It might prevent things like Petey getting bodyslammed and injured during his rookie season. Or other examples of teams having no fear doing poop to one of our "top" players.
