Honestly, we like to pick apart everything about our players and prop up every other teams. In reality, other teams defenders aren't as good as we ever give them credit for. Is he ever going to be Cale Makar, or Victor Hedman? no, but he has skills they wish they had. Hughes is one of the most offensively gifted Dmen in the league today, and he is well above average defending against the rush. He is not the best at defending the cycle if he needs to clear net front presence or battle against the boards. But he does a decent job picking off/disrupting passes. Other than a minority of Canucks fans, he is seen as a legit #1 defender around the league.

Hughes doesn't do any PK because of his defensive deficiencies. The only one that comes close to that on our team is OEL or Myers and we all know how bad THEY are

Only because there's no one else on our team that qualifies. A true 1D doesn't have to be Makar or Hedman, but they do have to do it all and play 30 minutes a night in all situations. Hughes doesn't do any PK because of his defensive deficiencies. The only one that comes close to that on our team is OEL or Myers and we all know how bad THEY are

I don't think a #1 dman needs to PK. But he does play upwards of 25 mins a night and has positive 5v5 stats and is a beast on the PP. He is the best in the league at completing passes, his advanced stats on a losing team are all positive (CF 58%, FF 56.8%, expected goals /60 higher than against, etc). He is near tops of the league at breaking out of the zone with possession. Hughes is every bit a #1 dman, so what if he doesn't PK?

I've been using my Bradly Smoker lately. Did a couple batches of smoked Rainbow Trout and Kokanee. It all turned out amazing. I've been eyeballing a couple of smoked brisket recipes to try. I think I'm going to give it a go. The only red meat I've smoked is venison jerky.

I've got a Pitboss Vertical pellet smoker and use it weekly. Had it for a year now and love it. Whole chickens, ribs, chops, rib roasts and brisket. Definitely watch some Youtube vids before trying anything new and get tips. Chudd's BBQ is a great site to learn briskets and ribs.

If a Pens deal happens, I can see a buy low on Ty Smith. He is in the minors now.

Brisket is all low and slow cook. 250- 275 for 12 plus hours. and a long rest if you can...like 12 hours at 150. Chud will show you the way

Then that's more to do with our lack of developing or finding one. I can name about 28 teams that have a 1D that does everything Hughes does but is better defensively and plays on the PK. Defense wins championships, offense sells tickets (at least until everyone realizes that you can't outscore forever)

How is that even possible, Hughes is 7th in scoring among defensemen. Right off the bat, you only have 6 teams with a defensemen that scores as much as Hughes does.

He is also 2nd in PP points among defensemen. Can't name 28 teams there either.

He is 25th among all defence in 5v5 goals for vs goals against. Some of those ahead are playing 5 less 5v5 minutes per game too. For D that play 18 minutes or more (64) of them he is 10th.

15th in take aways per 60 among D that play 18 minutes or more per game but 104th in giveaways per 60.
