The big rumor now is Carolina sending Necas in a package to the Blue Jackets for the #4 pick. That would be wild.

I'm expecting none of the talk to come to fruition and everybody holds their picks, no big trades are made lol. On Sunday or Monday Friedman said he was expecting this week to be bananas crazy, and nothing has happened lol.

Also, not draft related, but Dreger said today that he had an NHL exec tell him that 75-90% of the top free agents already know where they're going.

I thought teams can't communicate until July 1?

Depends who's on the board.

If we go D, we're likely looking at one of D*ickinson, Parekh, or Buium. I'd expect Levshunov and Silayev to be off the board, along with one or two other D I mentioned. So it'd probably be the case where we would take the last remaining guy of the top 5 D.

If we go forward, we could go many different directions. We're likely looking at a choice between some combination of Sennecke, Brandsegg-Nygard, Catton, Iginla(not likely he gets past Calgary though if he falls that far), Helenius, or Eiserman. I love Catton and he'd be my pick, but i'd be expecting one of Sennecke or MBN to be the pick because of size. Totally fine with any of these guys.

Agree on Catton. I think if he was 6’2” instead of 5’10” people would be arguing who should go first Mack or Catton.

Since 2000 4 players have had 50 or more goals and 115 or more points in the CHL in their drafts years. Their names are Crosby, Patrick Kane, Bedard and…Barkley Catton. How this kid is being projected to still possibly be around at 10 is beyond me, but if he somehow is Fitz should sprint to the stage to draft him.

Nothing wrong with using the pick in the draft. Whether we trade the pick or use it, we still have a valuable asset to use in a trade, or to keep and trade a different player or pick. As mentioned, some of the guys around 10 are exciting. We could have crazy depth if he and Holtz pan out to be middle 6 forwards. If we land Pesce, a top 4 of Dougie, Pesce, Nemec and Hughes would be nice to move forward with.

Seravalli reporting that along with pick 10, the Devils are actively looking to move Marino. Fitz gotta be fairly confident he's able to sign Pesce if Marino is moved this weekend before free agency opens.

Seravalli also says the Devils are believed to be pursuing 'multiple' free agent D.

So likely Pesce and a cheapish vet 3LD, like Dillon/Kulikov/ect. Someone like that i'd imagine.

I mean that is just due diligence to see who would sign and move on from those that don't

Just needs to make sure doesn't wait too long and be left with scraps

Nah seems like we're definitely signing multiple D. We need a veteran left handed D to fill in Bahls spot and everyone seems to think Pesce is a essentially a lock as well. Just a matter of how big they go on the left handed D. Can't imagine it's too expensive, if Pesce comes in around the rumored ~6M, if they also want to improve the forwards.

Likely looking at:

Siegs-Dougie
Luke-Pesce
Free agent-Nemec
DeSimone/Hatakka as the 7th D

If it means they can find a way to keep both Montour and Reinhart then they should definitely move him. Dude can't stay healthy anymore and is making 7.5M for one more year. Probably can find a taker.

I didnt know he was a health risk, but he seems to be the guy that leaves it all out there though, so the injuries makes sense i guess. Too bad. oh well

For sure, he's still pretty solid. He's missed 20+ games 4 of the last 5 years, I'm actually surprised he survived a full playoff run lol.

Just wait til we go off the board

I'm fine with any of Buium, D'ickinson, Silayev, Parekh, Catton, Helenius, MBN, or Eiserman.

With so many forwards off the board and a lot of the D falling, I think it's pretty safe to assume we're going with a left handed D here. Silayev, D'ickinson, and Buium would be good picks.

Hes's staying the KHL for the rest of his contract, which is another 2 or 3 years. So he's a while away.

No offensive upside whatsoever, but honestly who cares when we have Luke/Nemec/Casey in the wings. He uses his body pretty well and he's an excellent skater for his size. Definitely can be a top 4 shutdown D who can play on the PK if he continues to develop well. Not as much of a project as Mukhamadullin, but not too far off tbh.

D'ickinson and Buium are better prospects with higher ceilings.
