I don't see how they're out of it. Everyone has an NMC and no one wants to leave. The only real option here is that in two years when JT is up if he wants too much, they let him walk and use the $11m to find a defenseman. In two years there's not a lot - and most of what is there will likely get locked up before then - but you have aging guys like Burns (40), Hedman (35), Petry (38), Schmidt (34), Orlov (34) who could offer support on a shorter term deal (maybe not Burns) or guys who will cost the moon like Ekblad (29), Provorov (29), Pionk (30), Theodore (30), Chychrun (27), Larsson (33) . . . .

But I hate the idea that they'd waste 2 years to try and find a solution to this everlasting problem.

I heard on the Steve Dangle podcast that the Leafs we're not really open to trading picks or prospects to help the team this season.

So the bolded part of your post pretty much confirms that they'll "give it a shot" this season but won't really try and invest in the team's current composition.

And since the money will be tighter than ever next season. It's basically saying they won't "actively try" to win the cup for 2 seasons while their core is in their prime. Which is crazy..... so maybe something unexpected happens this summer or they just hope everything falls into place with the current composition of the team.

What does Mr.Monkeypunk think about Parayko with some money retained?

I've scoured both RD and LD on cap friendly and the list of players who are potentially available will either be way overpaid or guys who are not legit top 4 D that can handle hard D mins.

Leafs can't give a Pesce 7.5M

A Tanev is nice right now but he could get Brodie'd any day now. He is turning 35.

Chychrun might not be good enough defensively.

The Ferraros are just more 4-5 D, we have enough of those.

Pickings are slim here. Tre will have to get creative if he wants someone legit.

NMC / NTC do not make a player untradeable and the Leafs have proven that over the years. It give the player much more power to (yes refuse to be traded if the choose to) pick where they get traded to.

I mean look back at players with these clauses and once a team has approached them (or vice versa they approach the team) how often does the player not end up traded?

Now getting fair value for that traded player is a whole different ball of wax if they didn't want to be traded but some players don't want to stay where they feel like they are no longer wanted.

I agree though waiting for 2 years to try and fix this would suck.

I like them also, but I like the Team winning more. to this point (7 tries) its not working. we are on the 8th try...see how it goes...but I am fine trying something else if it doesnt work again
- senstroll

I agree. Just dont see a need to die on a hill everyday over a couple top notch wingers.

I don't buy this crap. Matthews is on the verge of scoring 70 (frank)ing goals.

Really the thought process will be the exact same as it has the last 4-5 seasons minus the Foligno trade.

McCabe was a term trade, Gio was a vet they figured they could sign for cheap for a few years. I truly believe they thought they could do the same with ROR and Schenn...or at least one of them.

They have never been a blow 1st rounders and their best prospects for guys who they plan on just using for a run.

The media needs a narrative though.

This is correct. Every team hands out these clauses like candy now. It's apparently SOP. But, those contracts are still tradeable. The team just has to work with the player/agent involved instead of unilaterally pulling the trigger.

Tampa trades guys with NMC/NTC's. McDonagh had one I think.

The team doesn't have to be all hardassed about it, if the team culture is in place and players/management puts the team first.

Enjoyed the Leafs Convo last night Mike.

I agree, Marner is elite and not going anywhere.

I cant understand why we as a fanbase dont just enjoy having both Nylander and Marner. I like all our players.

Well maybe not Timmins, not sold on that cat yet.

- Snot Dillingham

I can't speak for others but for me I like both players BUT I get awfully tired of one specific poster who endlessly does this, always painting Willy as the worst player the Leafs have ever had and Marner as the best Leaf ever.

Both are insanely stupid POV's and flat out wrong but the constant posting of it and the over analyzing of Willy's play with a negative lens leads me to point out the other side of it and that likely comes off as Marner hate or dislike.

I have mistakenly done this in hopes that specific poster will see that both players are fantastic and yet both have warts in a silly hope he will stop. I should know better by now I suppose but it's hard not to yell back once in awhile when someone is screaming things that are just not factual multiple times daily.

I mean if you had someone at work who told you every day, all day the world was flat would you tell them the world was in fact round at some point and/or to just STFU? lol

Great Slave is better. Used to go down to the lake in the old town in Yellowknife and watch the sun dip down into one part of the lake and then come an hour or two later in another spot
- Canada Cup

lol.

I wasn’t debating which lake is better or bigger hahaha..

Slave Lake is just north of Edmonton, Great Slave Lake is much further north. That’s all.

And yes, I’d love to go to GSL. I want to go on that show “Alone.”

In Corey Perry’s case, I would imagine GSL isn’t “near Edmonton” enough, he might as well just buy a Muskoka cottage.

But I agree, Alberta is mostly poophole wasteland flyover country.

I'll take a couple of things into consideration here - for one Scabs posts above about Dangle - and I'd say that you have to ask yourself if what you're trading away can provide that level of value in the term where you need it. So we need cheap assets to offset our expensive core, but objectively that specific ship has sort of sailed - Matthews and Marner are 26 and Nylander is 27. Rielly is 29. There is no one the Leafs are going to pick this year with the 18 - 32 pick (optimistically) that's going to come in and assist this lineup in the next 4 years.

So the question is: Can what we have already drafted - Cowan, Minten, Niemela, one of the young goalies - or any of the ancilliary guys who probably project to be bottom-6 at best if they even reach tweener stage - help out in the next 3 years? To what extent? If trading an Easton Cowan gets you Parayko now (which it wouldn't as a 1:1), is it worth it?

Parayko is a big boy. He doesn't move the needle much offensively, but he can provide a lot of what we need in terms of muscle and size around the net. He is currently playing first pairing minutes and he's faring . . . okish at it on a weaker team. He and Leddy are -5 at 5v5 - but St. Louis is a rather minus team. My biggest problem is that while his $6.5m salary is fine for a top-4 guy, his term takes him to age 37.

I don't know the answer to be honest. I still don't think Keefe knows how to coach defense, so adding a guy like Parayko may not fit in until something is done about the system.

Why do I bother to work hard, when fleecing rubes is so franking easy?

https://boingboing.net/20...2/eli-regalado-fraud.html

Kaitlyn and I are being charged in a civil charge from the Colorado Securities and Exchange Commission for basically selling millions of dollars worth of cryptocurrency that is deemed worthless by the state. Now, the reason that they're saying that it's worthless is because there is no exit for people who have bought.

We launched an exchange, the exchange technology failed, things went downhill. And from that point forward, we've just been waiting on the Lord, literally, for a miracle.

So the charges are that Kaitlyn and I have pocketed $1.3 million, and I just want to come out and say that those charges are true. So there's been $1.3 million that's been taken out of. I think it was a total of 3.4 million. But out of that 1.3, half a million dollars went to the IRS, and a few hundred thousand dollars went to a home remodel that the Lord told us to do.

So how this whole thing started is the Lord told us in '21 to walk away from our marketing company. And he said, "I'm going to do a new thing." And then he took us into this cryptocurrency. It was a different cryptocurrency other than [garbled] index coin at the time.

Well, that cryptocurrency turned out to be a scam. And so the Lord says, "Give that to 'em, but also give them a 10X."

And I'm like, "Well, where's this liquidity going to come from? And the Lord says, "Trust me."

Well, as money is coming in, we would be sowing it, and at first, it was hundreds of dollars, then thousands of dollars, then tens of thousands of dollars. Money would come in. We'd tithe, we'd sow, more money would come in. And so we were just always under the impression that God was going to provide, that the source was never ending, that God was doing a new thing.

And that we had nothing to worry about.

We sold a cryptocurrency with no clear exit. We did. We took God at his word and sold a cryptocurrency with no clear exit. And so the prosecutors have to take that and say, these people willingly sold a cryptocurrency with no clear exit. What we're praying for and what we're believing for still is that God is going to do a miracle. God is going to work a miracle in the financial sector.
