Grieg deserved a visit and should have been forced to drop the gloves, Morgan's hit was high with the the stick and to the head which is excessive. I dont believe that was his target but none the less that was the point of contact and was reckless.
2 game suspension no more no less |

Alot of talk today the Preds may be gearing up to get a major return for Saros. I wouldn't trade Saros if I were the Preds. He is a game-changer, but the Kings are desperate. The ONLY thing keeping them from the playoffs may be a top-flight goalie..
No. One of the things that keeps them from going past round one of the playoffs is a top-flight goalie. What might keep them from the playoffs is blowing leads and their inability to get 2 pts from OT/SO. |

Can the Leafs withstand a long-term loss of who may be their most important players? - Eklund
I am English very good. |

Greig should have shown some respect and just thrown the puck in the net, the slapshot was not needed....but Reilly could have just given him a shove and had a few words. Crosschecking him across the face was so out of line. He should get a long suspension, there could have been a life changing injury done there. It wasn't the playoffs, it was just a game. One loss. A stupid cheap shot and that helps nobody.

Aren't the LAK already in a playoff position, with games in hand no less? Right now, I think addition by the subtraction of Dubois might have more benefit than anything else... seems to be a major distraction in the locker room.
As for Rielly, I'd say expect at least the same 6 games they gave Perron, who also didn't have any significant history of discipline. There's just no defence whatsoever for using your stick like that well outside of the actual game play. |

Kinda doesnt matter what Greig did. It was a hit to the head and the play was over. W will see if he gets preferential treatment, but he deserves 5 plus. ez. A nonsense slapshop brings out somekinda false bravado in the leafs. They just dont get it. |

well it sure does.
look at how OV scored into an open net. that's how it's done.
If Greig was at the blue line or even at the red line ok but few feet away from the net is just plain disrespectful and a poor sportsmanship
Also the hit was on the shoulder pads and his stick goes up to his head. |

Rielly should get some consideration for good behaviour to date, but the suspension needs to show the league won't tolerate this kind of reaction. 5-6 games, Keefe should be fined for his 'appropriate' comments and forced to retract them. Grieg certainly deserved a reaction to his unsportsmanlike play, but a clip to the back of an unsuspecting head is never the right way to do it. |

Heard about it, first time to watch what happened.
If taking a slap shot into an empty net is what triggered Reilly than he is a mentality soft player. That is going full Dale Hunter.
There is absolutely no reason that type of retaliation should be allowed or tolerated for something that's not even close to being disrespectful. Would it be understandable if a player cross checked Mathews in the mouth for celebrating a goal? If one is disrespectful than the other has to be as well. These players are drinking too much soy milk nowadays.

Agree w all of that, but at the end of the day was he really that annoyed at Greig or was it that they lost? It does not matter. The punishment is not reduced cause it was maybe morally justified which it wasnt. How soft are folks that they are that offended by a slatshot on an empty netter... Are the Leafs that fragile?

"Superfood" isn't really a thing FYI. It's a marketing term that has no real definition. |

By that logic any fancy moves to score should be considered poor sportsmanship. Actually scoring on an empty net at all should be considered poor sportsmanship.
The amount of mental gymnastics someone has to go through to get their feelings hurt on a slap shot in an empty net is ridiculous. Imagine if he missed the net, yeah the world would be laughing at him, but he didn't so now people are upset.
I hope the next time Ottawa plays Toronto and they get a chance, I hope they slap it in the empty net again just to prove how weak minded they are.

It’s 100% showing up the team when all you have to do is slide it into the eng. You know why? Because when has that even happen? It hasn’t because it’s code, or an unwritten rule that you don’t do it. Grieg is an agitator and that’s why he did it, and he got a stick in the face because of it. Reilly should’ve just drop the gloves and pummeled him with his fists (instead of his stick)
This is a classic case of two wrongs dont make a right. |

Completely different situation.. Chaisson didnt skate over and crosscheck the Leaf.... words were exchanged first..
What Greig did wasnt cool, but it definitely did not warrant an attack like Reilly put on him...
in-person hearing usually leads to 6+ games |
